Melissa George to play Mattie

Australian actress Melissa George, whose credits include Grey's Anatomy and Lie to Me, will star opposite Pierce Brosnan in A&E's four-hour mini-series Stephen King's Bag of Bones.

George will play Mattie, the mother of a young child embroiled in a custody battle. Brosnan's widowed character, a novelist, winds up helping Mattie as she fights her father-in-law to keep her child.

This one is the same as the finished one but with the baby blue and I’m glad they didn’t keep the blue on the finished cover. Here you can see that “The Book” has been removed and I must admit that it was a smart way to shorten the title and make it look better on the cover. One thing though that is somewhat of a lost is the fact that we now can’t see the Stephen King bust that is hidden by “Lilja’s”.

This one I actually like quite a lot. It’s only real problem is that “Lilja’s Library” is in babe blue which I don’t think is the right color. And that the title of the book is way to long.

This is probably the design that I like the least. The text is good but the way “The book” is put on the cover doesn’t look good at all. Any the font on my name is way too thin.

Bag of Bones on A&E later this year

Straight from Mick Garris. A&E has greenlighted Bag of Bones as a two-night, four-hour-miniseries to air in the fourth quarter of 2011. As rumored Pierce Brosnan will star as Mike Noonan and Annabeth Gish as his wife Jo. Kelly Rowland is also expected to join the cast, probably as Mattie if you ask me.

Today King commented on Universal dropping The Dark Tower. Here is a repport from Entertainment Weekly:

Stephen King 'not really surprised' about 'Dark Tower' roadblock -- EXCLUSIVE

With the news that Universal has canceled its planned film-and-TV adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series, the author tells EW.com that he’s still optimistic that director Ron Howard will find a home for Roland the Gunslinger on the big (and/or small) screen. “I’m sorry Universal passed, but not really surprised,” he writes in an email. “As a rule, they’ve been about smaller and less risky pix; maybe they feel it would be better to stick with those fast and furious racing boys. I bear them no ill will, and trust Ron Howard to get Roland and his friends before the camera somewhere else. He’s very committed to the project.”

To celebrate the release of my book in eBook format I will let you have a look at the different ”could have been cover designss” there where for my book. All designs where done by Gail Cross of Desert Isle Design and I’m not sure why she didn’t like the first ones but I will let you know what I think about them and hopefully you’ll give me your thoughts on each and every one of them as well, OK? I will show you a different cover each day for the next 6 days.

The text here is actually very fitting to Glenn’s illustration of Marv but a bit hard to read. I like it but think that my name is way too big.

Universal announced today that they are NOT doing The Dark Tower. Now Ron Howard and company have to convince another studio to back them IF they are still interested in bringing The Dark Tower to the movies. Here are some articles about it:

Info about the limited Keyhole

Here are some interesting news from Donald M. Grant about the limited edition of B>Wind Through the Keyhole. They will release the Limited Editions in February 2012 and King has agreed to sign only 800 copies of a Deluxe Edition. In keeping with their policies of supporting long time customers, owners of Deluxe Edition copies of The Little Sisters of Elurianumbered 1-800 will have the first option to buy this Deluxe Edition.

The Stephen King one-shot comic was so popular it soldout almost upon release. Now the publisher (Bluewater) has extended this Stephen King story to a full graphic novel, with many more pages, and it's being published in trade paperback.

David Yates to make a stand

Bloody Disgusting reports that David Yates is thinking about turning The Stand into a three part movie:

David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, has the pick of the litter — or should we say, pick of the literature? — at the studio. Warner Bros. Pictures' top priority is a multi-picture adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. Vulture's spies report that Yates is flying into town tomorrow, and has been rereading King’s epic-length supernatural classic. Yates will decide if he wants to do the film sometime in the next two weeks. It is a big commitment, as the studio wants to split the giant book into three parts.

Today I got this cool little book from Hodder & Stoughton. It's called "Flipback" and as you can see you flip it to read it. The pages are also really thin so the entire book is very small and easy to bring with you. All in all a very cool book!

Good news for James Bond fans but not for The Dark Tower fans. It has now been confirmed (see here) that Javier Bardem will be the villan in the next Bond movie. This will make it hard for him to star in The Dark Tower movie and might be an indication on where thta movie is heading...

Here is a photo of the press kit SyFy sent out. It has the first episode of Haven as well as the first episodes of Eureka and Warehouse 13. An extra bonus with this one is that the episode of Haven is a rough cut, with temp audio, graphics and effects. Why is this good you might ask? Well, because it gives me a chance to see how the episode is done and that is stuff that I really enjoy seeing. That's why.

According to King's french publisher he will NOT be going to France in 2012. The plan is now to do it in 2013 instead to give him more time for Ghosts Brothers.

Frank Darabont recently talked about the possibility of King and his son Joe writing an episode of The Walking Dead. Here is a report from Screenrant.

As for the rumor that horror maestro Stephen King would be penning an episode for season 2. Darabont’s response was a somewhat flaccid confirmation – saying King definitely wanted to do it, but it required the presence of his son (and acclaimed author in his own right) Joe Hill – and that their schedules had yet to line-up for the work to progress.

Darabont stated:

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed. It’s just a matter of… They want to do it together. I’m proud to say that they’re both addicted fans of the show. In fact, Steve started harassing me by email, because I sent him the first one as soon as we had a lab pressing a disc. Like a decent Blu-ray. Then he started harassing me for the next one. Because Joe would drive up from wherever he lives, because he lives an hour away, and they’d sit and watch it together.”

“We’ve literally just been waiting for their schedules, given that they’re pretty in-demand guys. Both of them. We’ve just been waiting for their schedules to mesh. For them to both be free at the same time. That’s the only thing that’s stopping it from happening. It’ll happen eventually, I’m sure.”

Pierce Brosnan as Mike Noonan?

Bloody Disgusting had this update on Bag of Bones today. Nothing has been confirmed yet though...

Starting pre-production almost a month ago, the Bag Of Bones mini-series finally has a name attached to it besides for director Mick Garris. Although final negotiations are still underway, it looks like Pierce Brosnan is all but set to star as Mike Noonan in the Stephen King adaptation.

Principal photography was supposed to start on July 6 in Nova Scotia, but since no one else has signed on yet (that we know of), don't be surprised if the date is pushed back a few days unless they really ramp things up.

Dark Tower or not...

A lot of rumors and speculations are going around right now about The Dark Tower and whether or not Ron Howard will direct it. People at Universal claims it’s still on but the fact that Ron Howard has signed on to do the biopic about formula one racer Nicky Lauda and also an adaptation of the “Spy vs. Spy” comic strip (if rumors are correct) will make it hard for him to get the time to do The Dark Tower. Howard also said recently that Javier Bardem formally hasn’t sign on to do the role of Roland yet (“Nobody is pay or play but he has said he wants to do it. We’ve spent a lot of time together. He’s fascinated by the character and has great instincts for Roland. I’m hoping when we go, he’s available and will join us.”) which is yet another bad sign for the movie.

However, Universal has to green light the film by next month or the rights revert to Imagine, Akiva Goldsman and King.
