King Translated Into 51 languages

Posted: August 8, 2014, 00:51

The hunt for King’s books in different languages continues and during the last weeks I have actually found no less than X new languages.

The first two are versions of Spanish; Spanish Castellano and Spanish Latin. They differs like the UK and US versions of English so the books aren’t very different but there are still differences.

The third is Brazilian Portuguese that’s different from the Portuguese they speak in Portugal.

The last two are Georgian (spoken in Georgia) and Bengali (spoken in Bangladesh).

Oh, and I’m thinking about including Braille as a language. I know it’s not a language in its own but it’s very different from every other book. So, if you count Braille I can now confirm that he is translated into 51 different languages and I bet there are more (I might have one more soon). Pretty impressive if you ask me!

Se covers in all the different languages here.

King at a Fundraising Event

King to appear at a fundraising event to benefit Manatee County’s public libraries.

Prolific horror writer Stephen King is expected to fill an auditorium with his fans this fall for a fundraising event to benefit Manatee County’s public libraries.

The Manatee Library Foundation announced this morning that King, a seasonal resident of Casey Key, agreed to donate his services for a Jan. 29 lecture at the Manatee Performing Arts Center in Bradenton.

The foundation hopes to raise $100,000 toward a new operating system to manage the libraries’ acquisition, cataloging and circulation data.

“We knew we needed a very special event,” if it is to reach that fundraising goal, Foundation President Jane Plitt said.

The foundation previously said that it would wait until this morning’s news conference to identify the “internationally acclaimed writer” it had booked for that event.

“It’s been a really tough secret to keep,” Library Services Manager Ava Ehde said.

Beautiful Shining Wraparound

Vincent Chong has done an extra piece of artwork for The Shining to be used on a wraparound dust jacket that would be sent out exclusively to those who had purchased the Limited Edition and as you can see Vincent used of the fact that this would be a wraparound dust jacket and came up with the idea for an image which would have Jack chasing Danny down the corridors, in a way so that you would only see Jack on the front of the book, and Danny on the back.

Head over to Vincent's blog for a skiss of it.

Mark Romanek is checking in

Mark Romanek is checking into the Overlook Hotel. The director is in negotiations to direct the prequel to The Shining for Warner Bros., The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The Shining was one of Stephen King's early horror works and was adapted into the classic Stanley Kubrick movie, which starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.

Overlook is based on King's original prologue to The Shining, which was cut from the book prior to publication in 1977.

The film will tell the origin story of the haunted hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson, a robber baron at the turn of the 20th century.

Former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara wrote the script. James Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer and Laeta Kalogridis are producing.

Romanek is a music video director who last directed the clone-themed drama Never Let Me Go, starring Andrew Garfield, Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan. He also directed the pilot for Locke & Key, the adaptation of a comic written by Joe Hill, King's son.

A 44th Language Found

The 44th language that a King book is translated into has been found. Today I found out that The Shining has been translated into Breton. Breton is a celtic language that's spoken in western France, the Brittany region and what’s extra interesting is that only 200,000 people have Breton as their native language. Very impressive that they now got their own translation of a King book if you ask me.

Under the Dome Ratings & Interview

What did you think about the season 2 premier? Seems the ratings was lower than the season 1 premier and finale but still high.

The second season premiere of "Under the Dome" came in way below last summer's premiere and last fall's finale, but the Stephen King-scripted episode still ranked as Monday night's top show in all measures.

What did you think about the season 2 premier? Seems the ratings was lower than the season 1 premier and finale but still high.

We know before the season started that two characters were going to die in the first episode (personally I thought it was the wrong two) and here are two interviews with one of them. If you haven’t seen the episode you might want to do that before you click on the links.

King Got The Idea In Paris

According to the moderator on King's board the news story That Bus Is Another World is the one he talked about when he was in Germany.

I've read it although he'd only titled it "That Bus" at the time. Steve wrote it not long after we got back from Europe as he got the inspiration as we were heading into Paris from the airport. Traffic was heavy and we were stopped next to a bus. He shared with us the idea of something (bad) happening on the bus being witnessed by a person in a vehicle next to it and what they would do about it came to him and voila, a new story!

Under the Dome Returns Tonight

Tonight Under the Dome returns to CBS for a second season. King has written the first episode and also has a cameo in it so it will be interesting to see where he’s going with the story. What’s a bit worrying though is that according to CBS there has been screeners sent out for this episode (not to me though) but there are no reviews to be found. Usually when a now season starts you hear something about it beforehand but not this time. Does that mean it’s bad? Does it mean it’s not worth talking about, or seeing? Does it mean that no one is interested? Could it be that I’ve been looking at the wrong places? Well, I have no idea. Hopefully it’s good but I guess since there are no reviews we’ll have to wait and see, right?

According to the cover for the upcoming August issue of Esquire Magazine there will be a new story by King included. I first thought it would be called Nobody but that part is probably part of the Cameron Diaz headline. More news as soon as I have them...

Stephen Lang Talks A Good Marriage

Dread Central did an interview with Stephen Lang and one of the questions was about A Good Marriage.

DC: I understand you’re in a Stephen King movie, A Good Marriage. There’s not much info online, but what a cast! Please tell us more about the story, who you play, and anything else… we love Stephen King!

SL: A Good Marriage is a very good movie. I just watched it last week, and was terrifically impressed by the work of Tony LaPaglia and the great Joan Allen. I love Stephen King’s work - he is a master. I play a broken-down, ailing, but determined former investigator. He's an old dog chewing on an old bone. Very nice role. The film has been sold, so I expect it in theatres not too far down the road.

Bad Little Kid In New Collection

A lot of fans has been waiting for Bad Little Kid to be published in English. So far it’s only been released in German and French but now the moderator of King’s message board has confirmed that it will be included in the new collection out in the fall of 2015.

I don't know about Afterlife but have been able to confirm that because it will be a fall release, "Bad Little Kid" will be part of the new collection. There was an exclusive for the French and German publishers for that but it will expire in June 2015.

And...

If I can find the other thread where this was asked, I'll post it there as well but some of you had asked about whether "Bad Little Kid" would be included. I've asked Steve and we've confirmed that the exclusive which France and Germany had will expire in June 2015 so it will be able to be included since the collection won't be out until the autumn of 2015. As of now, the plan is to include it.
