Finally, we have confirmation on what’s happening with the remake of Salem’s Lot. Here is a press release from MAX confirming that it will be available for streaming in 2024. We did have rumors that this was the case but now it’s confirmed. No date has been revealed yet but again, rumors, say October / November.
Here is my thoughts about King's new collection You Like It Darker. It contains minor SPOILERS so be aware.
As a whole You Like It Darker is a solid collection. Not his best and I would have appreciated a bigger variation between the (new) stories but it’s a nice read. My favorites are "The Fifth Step", "The Turbulence Expert" and the new “The Answer Man”.
In an interview with Screen Rant director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour talked briefly about Welcome to Derry
The television medium allowed for the show to focus more about the characters, it's very, very character-driven. I've enjoyed preparing for that show, and I think audiences will be as scared as they are in the original movies, and Andy Muschietti's handprints are all over this series. So, I think people will be very excited for the series.
Youtube channel The Kingdom Channel reveals why the new Salem’s Lot movie has been dealyed.
Per the email, the new Salem’s Lot was initially like three different movies of different genres thrown together, but feedback from “several test screenings” helped WB edit it into the best version of itself, apparently.
Looks like things might be moving forward for The Long Walk.
Lionsgate International will launch sales in Cannes next week on Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, which The Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence will develop, direct, and produce.
Genre maestro Roy Lee will produce with Lawrence and the latter’s about:blank producing partner Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider.
Lionsgate picked up the project late last year after it had been at New Line. JT Mollner is adapting the screenplay based on the 1979 novel published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman.
I joined Kingsize podcast recently and now the episode is live.
NEW EPISODE !! OUT NOW WHEREVER YOU MAY POD.
Our castaway this episode is none other than Hans-Åke Lilja, the curator of Lilja's Library - the Go To resource for all things King. This man is an absolute fountain of knowledge; has spoken to The King not just once but twice, and has more scoops than Brady when he masquerades as an ice cream van man in Mr Mercedes. David Dastmalchian discusses his experience working with Mike Flanagan on The Life of Chuck and it’s good things he has to say…
Getting to work with Mike Flanagan on Life of Chuck was A) an honor because I just adore his work. I think he’s such a talented storyteller. B) he’s a close friend of mine. So it’s fun when your friends with someone, for example, James Gunn, we were friends a long time before I ever got to be directed by the guy. You know, like. So with Mike, when he said ‘do you want to come play on Life of Chuck?’ and he told me about the character and I got to read his script, and I was so moved.
And you know, it’s beautiful, it’s based off the Stephen King story. You think, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you’ve ever seen. It is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt, the drama, the performances, they’re all across the board. The cast in this is deep. Matt Lillard has a moment in this film that just breaks my heart. Karen Gillan, another one who I think rides that incredible ski slope between her small indie art films and then big studio budgeted things. One of the best actors in Hollywood right now. Kate Siegel, I mean there’s so much great people! Ah, what a joy.
Deadline reports that Glen Powell is set to star in the remake of The Running Man. Edgar Wright will direct and produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
I’ve read the book Stephen King’s Maine: A History & Guide
Now it’s somewhere in between. King fans will read it and wonder why there wasn't more King stuff in it and historians might skip it thinking there is only King stuff in it. And that is sad because it is a good book for the right reader. After all, I did learn what the right size for a grave is and I’m sure I’ll get to use that sometime, somewhere…
Here are some deleted scenes from Stand by me. There is also a different actor playing the writer in the end.
Director Rob Reiner had trouble casting the role of "The Writer," first casting David Dukes, then going to Michael McKean, among others, before finally settling on high school friend Richard Dreyfuss. Here we see David Dukes, who passed away in 2000. His last role was in Rose Red.
Exciting casting news: award-winning narrator Will Patton will read the audiobook edition of You Like It Darker with select stories read by Stephen King himself!
Today we celebrate that it’s 50 years since Carrie was released and King became a published author. Today he has published a total of 88 books during 50 years. That is an average of 1,76 books a year, every year, for 50 years. Very impressive if you ask me.
Personally, I want to take this opportunity to thank Steve for all the stories and hopefully there are many more to come. Thanks Steve and congratulations on 50 great years!
Now something might be thinking "Didn't I read somewhere that Carrie was released on April 5, 1974?". Well, you might. Some online sources list the release date for the book as April 5th, others as April 4th. It’s up to each and every one to decide what date you want to see as the release date (it’s hard to know for sure with such an old book) but what makes me believe that April 4 is the correct date is that King himself says so in the invitation to the book's 25th anniversary party.
Today my book Stephen King: Stories from Five Decades of Storytelling is released in Sweden. It has already been sold to the US and other languages will follow.
Deadline reports that filming of The Monkey wrapped a week ago and the cast has been revealed.
Theo James (The White Lotus), Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Elijah Wood (The Lord Of The Rings), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (The Hardy Boys) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).
In The Monkey twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic. Theo James plays the twins in later years. Convery plays the younger twins.

Marvel star Karen Gillan has seen a rough cut of The Life of Chuck and says she "didn't stop crying for days".
"It’s a cathartic experience. It’s someone dealing with the end of their life, and it’s told in a very imaginative way, and it’s just beautiful. It’s a celebration of life, I suppose. I think we could all do with a bit of that."
The Life of Chuck don't have a release date yet but hopefully it'll be out this year.
Stephen Graham Jones‘ Indian Lake Trilogy will have something special to look forward to in the final instalment’s audiobook. The Angel of Indian Lake (to be released on March 26 by Simon & Schuster Audio) will have King as a featured voice.
King joins Jones himself alongside Isabella Star LaBlanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, Suitable Flesh), Angela Goethals (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon), and Andrew J. Robinson (Hellraiser).
Great news. Now I can reveal that BearManor Media (who released my book Stephen King: Not Just Horror) will release my new book Stephen King: Stories from Five Decades of Storytelling. The book will be released during 2024. Stay tuned for more info…
The cover is for the Swedish edition, out April 4th.
Warner Bros have now decided that the new Salem’s Lot movie will premier on Max during 2024. No release date has been set yet but a guess is in the fall, maybe during Halloween…
Pentatone will release a world premiere recording of The Shining, an opera by Paul Moravec and Mark Campbell. The album will be released digitally and as a two-disc physical album April 12.
This recording follows Lyric Opera of Kansas City's 2023 production of the opera, which first premiered at Minnesota Opera in 2016. Conductor Gerard Schwartz returns from the Kansas City run, leading the Kansas City Symphony and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City Chorus. Baritone Edward Parks also returns from the 2023 production, singing the part of Jack Torrance.
Good news for all King fans in France. During 2024 actuSF (who also released Shining in the Dark in French) will release my book Stephen King: Not Just Horror in a French edition.
I visit Lou at Stephen King Podcast to talk about what's happen since we last spoke (which was back in 2020) as well as my book Stephen King: Not Just Horror.
Twise we have seen Holly on the small screen. First in Mr. Mercedes where she was played by Justine Lupe and then in The Outsider where Cynthia Erivo played the role. Now it’s time again. King’s latest book Holly is heading to the small screen.
Last year during a Q&A at Chicago's 2023 Printers Row Lit Fest Jack Bender, who produced Mr. Mercedes said that a TV adaptation is on the way.
"I've been fortunate to know and work with Stephen King – talking about writers," Bender said. "His new book 'Holly,' by the way, is great. We're going to make a show out of that. We haven't announced it."
Not sure why this hasn’t been reported earlier…
Who would you like to see as Holly? Lupe, Erivo or someone new?
On April 4, the same day (but 50 years later) that Stephen King's debut Carrie was released my new book STEPHEN KING: STORIES FROM FIVE DECADES OF STORYTELLING will be released in Swedish. You can see the brand-new cover below.
Jacob Tremblay who star in The Life of Chuck had this to say about the movie:
"It's just I had an amazing time on that set. One of the things I love about Mike is that he keeps things very, very fun and very kind of casual, but it's serious when it needs to be serious on set. So, it's really fun. I'm super excited for people to watch this film. I haven't seen or read anything like it before. It's so, so unique and so different."
Great news for all fans of Joe Hill. He just confirmed on Bluesky that his upcoming book King Sorrow will be about as long as NOS4A2 (just over 700 pages) when it’s released in 2025.
From Cemetery Dance:
Stephen King has delivered a brand new short story for Cemetery Dance #79, and it's a classic tale of terror from the master of horror. This story will NOT appear in his new collection coming out later this year!!
"Soames thought Jim Danton had looked bad two months ago; he looked worse now. Twenty pounds had fallen off him, maybe more. The dark bags under his eyes were darker than ever. The eyes themselves were bloodshot. His graying hair had thinned appreciably..."
John Candy as Billy Halleck in Thinner? That could have been the case if King had gotten his way. Producer Mitchell Galin commented on it on Shout! Factory’s Collector’s Edition of the movie.
2023 is almost over and it was a somewhat slow King year. King released his 88th book (Holly) and we got three movies, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (watchable), The Boogeyman (really bad) and Children of the Corn (really, really bad).
As for Lilja’s Library it was a great year. A huge makeover was done on the site. Shining in the Dark was released as an audiobook in Poland and my new book Stephen King: Not Just Horror was released in Sweden, Italy, and the US.
Now 2024 is around the corner and what can we expect from the new year? Well, in May King will release the collection You Like It Darker and he will probably (keeping my fingers crossed) release another book in the fall as well. We will get several movies, The Life of Chuck, The Monkey (maybe) and Salem’s Lot (hopefully).
Shining in the Dark will be released in Turkish and at least one more language (making it totally 17 languages…I’m aiming for 19). Stephen King: Not Just Horror will be released in Czech (spring), German and Greek (fall). I have another book, Stephen King: Stories From Five Decades of Storytelling that will be released in Swedish and a few of other languages during the year and as the title says, 2024 is the year that King celebrates 50 years as a published author, something that will be celebrate during the year!
And remember, the earth is 4.5 billion years and we managed to be here at the same time as Stephen King. How cool is that?
Now you can order Stephen King: Not Just Horror from Amazon.
At the moment you can get the book in hardcover. The paperback will be available for order soon at this link.
You can also check out an excerpt from the book. So head over to Amazon for that and why not get a copy as a Christmas present for someone you like while there?
