Silver Bullet 2 and Pet Sematary 3

Bloody-Disgusting reports that Silver Bullet 2 and Pet Sematary 3 soon is in the making. Here is what their source reports. And please not that they say it may just be a rumor and not true info...

"There are plans to make a Silver Bullet 2 with Stephen King as a consultant but he will have nothing to do with the writing dutie's the story will revolve around Corey Haims character all growing up in the same small town as the original with some new cast. The details have yet to be worked out but it looks like that might happen. But for the big news that I know every one will love to finally hear, Pet Sematary 3 is a go were going to be going on a script that was written back in 93 when plans for Pet Sematary 3 was shelved. Like part 2 Pet Sematary 3 will have nothing to do with the one before, Mary Lambert is in talks to direct this but we are looking into other directors in case she passes. Filming plans to start in April for a sometime later fall release. Please get the word out the more anticipation will help this film in the long run I don't want to see this film killed before it starts again same for Silver Bullet 2."

Personally I have a hard time believing that King would agree to be a consultant for Silver Bullet 2. King in known for his dislike of sequels. I put my money on that this is just an Internet rumor.

Perelman Takes On Talisman

Sci Fi Wire reports that The Talisman begins production next year for a 2005 release.

Russian-born director Vadim Perelman, who will helm the film version of Stephen King and Peter Straub's best-seller The Talisman, told SCI FI Wire that DreamWorks honcho Steven Spielberg personally asked him to take the project based on Perelman's first film, House of Sand and Fog. "He called me after he saw the movie for the first time," Perelman said in an interview. "I felt very honored."

Perelman said that he is currently working on the screenplay adaptation of the novel, about a boy who searches through a parallel universe to find a talisman that can save his mother from cancer. "I find an emotional way in," Perelman said of the story. "I have to. It's about this boy that's saving his mother's life. It's my emotional door into the story, and then I'll make it my own."

The Talisman begins production next year for a 2005 release.

There is an article/ interview with Stephen King in the new issue of Pages (Nov./Dec.) with Amy Tan on the cover, and the new issue of Entertainment Weekly has a new King column as well (this has Julia Roberts, Kirstin Dunst, etc. on the cover).

Fangoria reports that Vadim Perelman hopes to start shooting The Talisman in the summer of 2004.

Longtime commercial/music video director-turned-feature helmer Vadim Perelman chatted with FANGORIA about the long-in-development Stephen King/Peter Straub adaptation THE TALISMAN, which he'll direct for DreamWorks following the release of his directorial debut, HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG. THE TALISMAN has had a long road to the big screen, and was at one time set to be produced by Steven Spielberg and adapted/directed as a television miniseries by Mick Garris (currently busy helming another King feature project, RIDING THE BULLET).

"We're hopefully starting it this coming year and shooting it in the summer," Perelman tells Fango. "Ehren [THE RING] Kruger is adapting, and it was already in process. I'm excited about it. My emotional road into this film was literally this 14 year-old boy—the story is about this boy who travels across two parallel universes, ours and a different one, in order to save his mother's life."

Perelmen, who was born in Russia and came to the West with his mother to escape horrific poverty, related to the story on a personal level. "A 14 year-old boy travels a long distance to save his mother's life...I said, 'Alright, I can get into this,' because the last thing I want to do is sell out," he explains.

As for reuniting with Spielberg and DreamWorks after SAND AND FOG, Perelman couldn't be happier. "They're very hands-off—they're great," Perelman reports. "They're a wonderful place to be—if they trust you and they know what you're doing. They always take chances on first-time directors. When Steven saw my film, one of his comments was, 'This is why I started this studio—to make films like this."

Dimension reserves King’s “1408”

Dimension has bought the film rights to 1408. Here is a report about it from Fangoria:

Variety reports that Dimension has bought the film rights to Stephen King’s story “1408,” which appeared in the author’s audiobook collection BLOOD AND SMOKE and then in the print anthology EVERYTHING’S EVENTUAL, and will turn it into a feature. The tale tells of a successful writer of spooky fiction who encounters real terror when he checks into the titular room of the Dolphin Hotel. We had previously reported here that Eli Roth was scripting a film based on this story, but now Matt Greenberg, who worked on the scripts for HALLOWEEN: H20 and MIMIC, among others, for Dimension, is penning the adaptation. Former Warner Bros. honcho Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing through his new company.

Rest Stop and more

The December issue of Esquire is out and it contains King's new story, Rest Stop. It's supposed to be a grim little tale of domestic violence and crises of conscience. The story is 8 pages long.

Dimension has bought the film rights to 1408.

A new column by King is out in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly and it's called The Pop of King: Do Movies Matter? (Part 1). It's part 1 of a 2-part column. Part two will be in issue #739 (Nov. 28). The Pop of King will run in #740, and then resume in every third issue.

Dark Tower spoilers

I got a mail from Tom Kemock yesterday and he told me that he spoke with the good people over at Borderlands Press today and they informed him that they are expecting their shipment of Borderlands 5 back from the printers any day now, and they hope to have every copy out in the mail by November 14.

Yesterday's Wall Street Journal (November 3, 2003) has an article on the front page of the second section regarding the efforts required to have rival publishers combine their efforts to issue the Dark Tower saga. The article, The Bookslinger, details the cooperation by Viking (Penguin) who this summer reissued the first four books in hardcover, Plume, who issued the trade paperbacks, and Signet, who issued the paperbacks, and Donald M. Grant and Viacom's Scribner imprint, who are issuing the last three.

The article, in a sidebar, gives a synopsis of all seven books. Here are the onces for part 5 - 7:

Wolves of the Calla (2003) Roland and his friends visit a place where families face the loss of some of their children every 20 years or so.

Song of Susannah (2004) Susannah Dean, one of Roland's companions, is taken over by a demon and the pair are then transported back to New York City in the summer of 1999.

The Dark Tower (2004) The conclusion of Roland's quest and the fates of his friends.

Also notable is the statement that Scribner is printing 660,000 copies of Wolves of the Calla, "a modest number for a Stephen King book but still a huge amount by publishing standards."

King will host the second installment of the nationally syndicated Lost Highway Radio Show, featuring American Recordings/Lost Highway recording artist The Jayhawks. The Jayhawks' 60-minute Lost Highway Radio Show is scheduled to air in late-November during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Guide to the Unpublished Stephen King

Romero talks The Girl who loved Tom Gordon

It seams that George Romero hasn't given up on doing a movie version of The Girl who loved Tom Gordon. In a recent interview he had the following to say about it:

JJ: Besides Dracula and the fourth Dead film, what else are you working on?

GR: I'm working with Stephen King on a novel of his called The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It was a novel released five or six back or maybe even more. It came out in 1999 or 2000.

SH: I've picked it up, but I haven't had a chance to actually read it yet.

GR: Well it's not a typical King scare thing. It's about a little girl that gets lost in the woods and it has some spooky stuff in it. It has some scares in it.

JJ: Is that in the beginning stages?

GR: No, we've been working on it for a long time actually. Nobody wanted to do it at first because it wasn't typical King thing and it wasn't a typical Romero thing. It's more like Stand By Me in a way.

JJ: But it's looking like it's going to happen?

GR: Now it's looking like it. The star of the thing is a nine year old girl..

JJ: That's got to be hard to cast.

GR: Yeah, but that may actually be the thing that gets the movie made. We're talking now with this nine year old girl that's getting hot.

Grant's Wolves dust jacket and The Girl who loved Tom Gordon movie

Here is a scan of Grant's edition of Wolves of the Calla. It's truly a beautiful book.

Yesterday I confirmed that George Guidall would read the audio edition of Song of Susannah. Well, today I'm happy to be able to tell you that he will also be reading The Dark Tower.

It seems that George Romero hasn't given up on doing a movie version of The Girl who loved Tom Gordon.

I just found out today that there actually is a double DVD out there with the complete series (all 7 episodes) of King's first TV series, Golden Years. It's region 2 but if you can watch that I recommend you to order it here.

George Guidall will read The Dark Tower 6

Today I got confirmation from Simon & Schuster Audio that George Guidall will read the audio edition of Song of Susannah. He also read the new edition of The Gunslinger and Wolves of the Calla.

Don't forget that Borderlands 5 is out next month. The limited and lettered leatherbound editions are already sold out but you can still get the trade edition. It's $35.00.

King on Good Morning America

Susan O'Brien, the webmaster at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY where Stephen King will be appearing with Janet Maslin this Thursday evening to screen Cujo and discuss his favorite scary films.
She told me something they've just confirmed today:

At the event this Thursday evening at 7:00, ticketholders will receive a pre-release hardcover edition of Wolves of the Calla (Dark Tower, Book 5) signed by Stephen King! We're delighted to confirm that, following the screening and discussion with Mr. King this Thursday Oct. 30, every ticketholder will receive a copy of the book a full week before its release date November 4th, signed by Stephen King himself.

There are a few tickets left that can be ordered online at $90 (JBFC members); $110 (nonmembers). The book is included with the cost of the ticket.

According to King's office he will be on Good Morning America on November 3rd. Check local listings for times.

King To Plan Give Writing Tips

ABC reports Stephen King's plan to give writing tips to Maine middle school students is on hold. The best-selling writer is too busy right now to offer lessons via laptops computers. His personal assistant, Marsha DeFilippo, says that means the plan is on hold for now.

The laptop program has put computers in the hands of all 36,000 seventh- and eighth-graders in Maine.

Last November, King toured a middle school in Freeport and told seventh-graders that he'd like to set up an interactive, Internet-based system through which he could teach writing. King isn't abandoning the idea, but DeFilippo told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that it'll be at least a year before it happens.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Vadim Perelman, who made his directorial debut on DreamWorks' upcoming Oscar hopeful "The House of Sand and Fog," is near a deal to take the helm of "The Talisman," a longtime pet project of Steven Spielberg.

Based on the 1984 fantasy novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub, it centers on 12-year-old Jack Sawyer, who goes on a quest in the living world and a parallel world known as the Territories to acquire a talisman that will save the life of his dying mother and the queen of the Territories.

The book, which marked the first collaboration between King and Straub, spawned the sequel "Black House."

Spielberg and producer Kathleen Kennedy have been developing the project for nearly 20 years, back when she was an executive at Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. It has taken on various forms throughout that time and recently was close to being made into a four-hour miniseries at ABC.

Spielberg will take executive producer credits on the feature, with Kennedy handling producer chores on the Ehren Kruger-penned "Talisman." The film is a co-production of Universal Pictures and DreamWorks.

Perelman's "Sand and Fog," which stars Jennifer Connelly Ben Kingsley and Ron Eldard will have its worldwide debut Nov. 9 at AFI Fest 2003 in Hollywood. It opens in theaters Dec. 26.

Rest Stop and Diary DVD review

A new short story by King entitled Rest Stop will appear in the next issue of Esquire Magazine, on newsstands in November.

Finally there is a new column by Tyson Blue online. This one is the longest he has done for Lilja's Library and it's called Things to Do While You Wait for the Wolves....

Here is the full dust jacket for both the US and UK edition of Wolves of the Calla. I got both books today and I must say that the illustrations are really nice. I think you all will enjoy them.

Simon & Schuster Audio will release 'Salem's Lot on audiocassette and CD in January 2004. It will be read by Ron McLarty whose book The Memory of Running King praised in his column in Entertainment Weekly.

King has been nominated for a 2003 British Fantasy Society award under the Best Collection category for his collection, Everything's Eventual. The awards will be presented during FantasyCon 2003, November 21-23, 2003, in Stafford, England. King has won a total of 5 British Fantasy Society awards in the past.

It has now been confirmed that King will speak at the Burns Film Center. On their site they confirm that Cujo will be shown and that afterwards King will discuss horror movies with JBFC board member and New York Times critic Janet Maslin. Tickets will go on sale October 1.

Judy in Connecticut reported today in SKEMERs that she had talked to an employee of the Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. who confirmed that King would make an appearance there on Oct. 30. King will speak and the movie Cujo will be shown. The price to be there is $90 for members and $110 for non-members. Tickets are not yet available, but will be by Oct. 1, maybe sooner.

When to order The Dark Tower

I got a press release and an ARC of Wolves of the Calla from Hodder & Stoughton today even though the ARC doesn't have the illustrations it lists all their titles.

There seams to be a remake of Christine in the making. There have been reports about a lawsuit filed by Richard Kobritz the producer for the 82 film adaptation of Christine directed by J. Carpenter. Evidently the suit states that Kobritz was left out of negotiations for the upcoming remake to be aired on NBC TV. He is seeking financial compensation. No other info has appeared at this time.

Unaired pilot of The Dead Zone

Here is a short summary of the unaired pilot of The Dead Zone that you could get on DVD for free when you bought the first season on DVD. I hope you all got it. There will be a review of it here soon.

On the DVD you get the original 84 minute unaired pilot that has quite a few different scenes. Most obviously with Michael Moriarity as Reverend Gene Purdy instead of David Ogden Stiers and a different, tall, blonde actress playing reporter Dana Bright.

The disc contains some extras as well. It has yet another audio commentary, this time with Lloyd Segan and Shawn Piller. There are also several promos for Season 2. Some easter eggs including trailers for The Dead Zone & Rose Red. 10 minutes of deleted scenes with timecode including some footage that was re-shot different ways or in different locations. There is even some stuff that appears nowhere else. All shot by another director. The deleted scenes have an optional audio commentary.

The score for this pilot is also done by someone else and some of the music is changed like it doesn't have Steely Dan's Do it Again during the Wheel of Fortune scene.

John Mellencamp talks musical

"In a recent AP interview, John Mellencamp talked a teeny bit about the musical he's writing with Stephen King.

What will the musical you're writing with Stephen King be like? MELLENCAMP: (Laughing) I can tell what it's not going to be like: It won't be "Jack and Diane" meets "Cujo." He's already written the story -- it's very beautiful, more like "The Green Mile." It's an American story about an American family. Some of the characters are 100 years old, some are 15. So that will give me the opportunity to write for each character in a different style. I ain't writing a bunch of rock songs"

John Mellencamp talked...

Shooting of Secret Garden started yesterday in Bromont, Quebec.

In a recent AP interview, John Mellencamp talked a teeny bit about the musical he's writing with Stephen King.

The Rock Bottom Remainders will be appearing at the Texas Book Festival on November 8.

The Authors Party (7 to 10 p.m. Saturday) at Austin Music Hall will cost $40 per person $150 for VIP pre-party event. At this time it is unconfirmed if Stephen King will be joining the other authors at this event.

The Dead Zone renewed for a third season

Today there is great news. The Dead Zone has been renewed for a third season!

There is also a CD out with the soundtrack from the first season.

OK, it's time for a WARNING! As I reported earlier King have a piece in Book Magazine. Well what is promoted on the cover as At The Movies: Tom Wolfe, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephen King, Dennis Lehane is actually just a short list of King's five favorite movies from 2002-2003.

So, this is nothing more then a small list and a big misuse of King's name by Book Magazine to sell more issues if you ask me.

BTW his favorites are: Wrong Turn, The Good Thief, Spellbound, Dark Blue and The Quite American.

I have been doing some reviewing lately and now I'm proud to let you know that you can check out my review of the latest Dollar Baby Autopsy Room Four and season 2 of The Dead Zone.

In other news;

The issue of Entertainment Weekly with King's second column is now out. The column is called Always, They Come Back and you can see what the cover looks on the right.

King will also be back in Book Magazine next month. In the Sept/Oct issue he lists five of his favorite movies of the past year with a little bit about each one.

Diary DVD, Misery play and Wolves summary

Lion's Gate will release The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer on DVD on October 10. It will have Commentaries and Multi-Audio.

Misery will be preformed as a stage play in Belgium later this year. It's being played at a theater called het Klokhuis and it is in the center of Antwerp. The performance dates are 20, 21, 22, 23 & 24 October. The group who performs it is called BATS. More info to come.

Amazon.com has posted a new summary of Wolves of the Calla on the book's main page at the site. There is some new information, which should prove interesting for you. You can also check out a cool promotional item for the UK edition over at eBay.

The issue of Entertainment Weekly with King's column is now out. It's called The Pop of King. It can also be read online but only if you're a subscriber.

Bernie Wrightson is currently working on a new cover for the paperback edition of Wolves of the Calla.

Kristen Dalton interviewed

Recently I had a talk with Kristen Dalton who plays Dana Bright in The Dead Zone. She told me her feelings about the series and you can check out what they are in the interview.

In other Dead Zone news. Lloyd Segan hopes that a third season will begin in March 2004...if they get picked up for a third season that is...

Out of nowhere a short film based of King's story Autopsy Room Four appeared.

There has now been an official press release about Kingdom Hospital released.

King will join Entertainment Weekly as a columnist. He will have a column every month and the first one will be in the August 8 issue.

This is from King's official newsletter:

Stephen King will join Entertainment Weekly as a columnist, beginning with the August 8 issue. Appearing on the magazine's back page, King's commentary will examine various facets of pop culture. The column will appear once a month, alternating with the magazine's current back page, "Stupid Questions with..." This is the first time since his college days that King has penned a regular column.

Two actors and one actresse have been selected for King's Kingdom Hospital. They are Andrew McCarthy, Diane Ladd and Bruce Davison.
