Some Interesting Facts About Salem's Lot (The New Movie)

_
Some interesting information has surfaced about the new Salem’s Lot adaptation. Den of Geek spoke to Gary Dauberman who revealed that his initial cut of the film contained more of the town’s backstory and was about three hours long, compared to the finished version’s almost two hours.

“My first cut was about three hours. There’s a lot left out. My first draft of the script is 180-odd pages or something because you’re trying to include everything. And a lot of it has to do with a lot of the secondary characters and stuff that I spoke about. So it was sad to see that stuff go, but it’s like a necessary evil.”

One of the things left out is the scene where Ben Mears as a child he sneaked into the Marsten House and had what may have been a supernatural experience.

Dauberman also spoke about the delay of the release of the film.

“It was a dark journey, you know, mostly an unpleasant journey, just not knowing… I just didn’t know what was going on.”

Another interesting fact was revealed when Cinema Blend spoke to Dauberman. Dauberman revealed that there is a deleted scene that features an issue of Comics Review.

“It didn't get into the movie, but I had the original publication, the zine of his first published short story. Someone brought it in. It's like, if you buy it, it's like $10, 15 grand or whatever. I had a scene where Mark Petrie is leaving class and he drops all his books and stuff, and Ben [Mears] helps him pick it up and he picks it up and he looks at it, and that's where Mark gets all his knowledge of horror movies and all that stuff.”

Here are my thoughts about the new adaptation of Salem’s Lot.

The review contains SPOILERS so be warned!!!

The movie isn’t as bad as I feared but it’s not a particularly good movie either and it’s biggest problem is that it’s just not scary.

Is Salem’s Lot Heading Straight To Blu-ray?

The remake of Salem’s Lot seems to have a date (July 3) set for a Blu-ray release which would mean Warner no longer plan on releasing it in the theaters. After reading a plot description (no I won’t post it here since Warner is making everyone who do take it down but it’s out there) I can understand them. I wasn’t impressed by the description.

Two King Movies Officially Rated

Motion Picture Association has confirmed that the Salem’s Lot remake has been officially rated and got an R for "R for bloody violence and language." The movie does still not have a release date, but now that it has a rating, that's hopefully next.

The Boogeyman has also been rated and was given a PG-13 rating for “Terror, violent content, teen drug use, and some strong language.”

The movie don’t have a release date yet but hopefully that will happen soon. The problem though, might be that it’s been expanded quite a bit compared to the story.

“Still reeling from the tragic death of their mother, a teenage girl and her little brother find themselves plagued by a sadistic presence in their house and struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention before it’s too late.”

Pullman: New Salem’s Lot True To The Book

Lewis Pullman had the following to say about the upcoming remake of Salem’s Lot in a chat with ComicBook.com:

Gary Dauberman, the director, is really keen on doing justice to the book. But also, the previous adaptation was a two-parter, because it’s such a hefty book and there are so many different moving parts and so many characters. So there are some parts where Gary had to press and find what was really at the heart of the movie to keep in, but for the most part, he’s really true to the book and keeping a lot of the original dialogue in there. He’s a Stephen King hound dog so he doesn’t wanna do Stephen dirty.

So I think it’s in good hands, Gary’s a really smart guy who has a keen eye for things. I think, not just lean on the jump scares, but lean on the more conceptual and visual things that, rather than a shock that fades out of your body in the next five minutes, something that’s more visual, like an imprint that burnt into your retinas as a disturbing image that you’ll wake up in the middle of the night that you can’t shake out of your head.

Salem’s Lot Without A Release Date

Seems the remake of Salem’s Lot is having some problems. Bloody Disgusting has the following update…

Originally set for theatrical release on September 9, 2022, the new Stephen King adaptation was recently bumped to April 21, 2023, and now the film has been undated altogether.

It’s likely that Warner Bros. is trying to figure out what to do with the movie, and whether to bring it to theaters or to streaming on HBO Max. We’ll report more as we learn it.

This is probably not a good sign…

Release Date For Salem’s Lot Moved

The News we all suspected would come has now done just that. Warner Bros have confirmed that they are moving New Line’s adaptation of Salem’s Lot from Sept. 9 to April 21, 2023.

The move itself isn’t a surprice since neither a poster or a trailer has been released but to move it more than 7 months, what’s up with that? Talk about missing the target. Well, hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.

Thanks to Herbert West.

Alfre Woodard Is Dr. Cody

Alfre Woodard joins the cast of Salem's Lot. Alfre will play Dr. Cody who assists Ben Mears and Susan Norton to fight the vampires.

Isn't Dr. Cody a man some of you might ask? And yes, in the book Dr. Jimmy Cody is a man but I don't see that this change will be a problem for the movie.
