King on Dark Tower Movie: It's Likely to Happen

Posted: February 10, 2016, 00:15
_
In an interview with Rolling Stone King talked about The Dark Tower movie. Here are some of the things he said:

"It looks to me like it's more likely than not it'll happen at this point. Let's put it that way."

"I think that it's more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it. But I can't say with any certainty. I know that they're trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that's the extent of my knowledge."

King also said he want to write about Jericho Hill:

"I'm never done with The Dark Tower. The thing about The Dark Tower is that those books were never edited, so I look at them as first drafts. And by the time I got to the fifth or sixth book, I'm thinking to myself, 'This is really all one novel.' It drives me crazy. The thing is to try to find the time to rewrite them. There's a missing element – a big battle at a place called Jericho Hill. And that whole thing should be written; I've thought about it several times, and I don't know how to get into it."

"I'd have to go back, read all the material before I could get myself in a frame of mind to do that. So, man, I just don't know. I'm a pretty instinctual writer, and I don’t have any game plan. I’m very unprofessional about that part of it; I can strap myself down in a chair and write every day, but the ideas come when they come. Maybe it will come time to write the Jericho Hill thing one day too."

Looks like the world premiere of Cell has been moved. This has been posted on the festival’s website:

"Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had to withdraw CELL from the 6:30 PM slot on Friday 26th of February. If you were looking forward to this in particular, we are sorry. There was absolutely nothing we could do about it, and believe us, we tried."

No new date for the premier has been given.

The Dune vs. The Dune

Posted: January 26, 2016, 22:29
_
Here is something for all your completest out there. It looks like there are some difference between the versions of The Dune that is in the printed version of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams and the audio edition of the same book. The reason for this is that the audiobook version was recorded before King made the edits for the hardcover release of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams and released as part of the Mile 81 audiobook (2012). Then they used the earlier version rather than re-record it for the audio edition of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.

The changes are not just a deleted or added word but whole sentences omitted or added. And there are quite a few of them.

So, if you want to experience every version of the story…you now got two.

ON THIS DAY IN 2013...

...Guns an essay discussing King’s thoughts on the gun control/gun rights issue facing the U.S., is released.

“I think the issue of an America awash in guns is one every citizen has to think about,” said King. “If this helps provoke constructive debate, I’ve done my job. Once I finished writing ‘Guns’ I wanted it published quickly.”

Bring Home The Secretary of Dreams

It’s once again time for a contest here at Lilja’s Library. This one is the first one to celebrate the 20 years that Lilja’s Library has been online. And to win all you have to do is to tell me what your best Lilja’s Library memory (from these 20 years) are. And it doesn’t matter if it’s something from yesterday or something from 1996 that is totally up to you. I will then pick the winner.

You can enter in two different ways. Either you post it as a comment to this news segment on Lilja’s Library or you can email it to me at info[a]liljas-library.com. You can’t post it on facebook or twitter because that will get lost. So post it here or in an email and do it before February 29.

The The prize this time is actually donated by one of my readers; Ms Charlie Johnson. And what a prize it is. You will, if you win, get a set of Secretary of Dreams (book #1 and book#2) 1st editions, gift editions from Cemetery Dance.

How about that? And because these where donated by a reader the winner will have to pay for shipping. Ms Charlie Johnson (who is a real hero) is donating two great books so it’s only fair that the winner pays shipping right?

The contest is open to anyone, anywhere.

Good luck everyone and again, thanks to Ms Charlie Johnson!

Elba as Roland, More Than a Rumor?

Posted: January 9, 2016, 22:35
_
Looks like the casting of Idris Elba is a bit more solid than just a rumor. Akiva Goldsman, who is writing and producing the project, spoke to IGN at the 2016 winter Television Critics Association press tour while promoting his new WGN America series Underground.

"I think Idris Elba is the greatest possible idea for casting for Roland, and I'm unbelievably proud of it as a collaborator on this enterprise and because I think that he's a great actor and I couldn't be more thrilled that he is likely to play a part," Goldsman said. "I understand that people who are thoughtful about the storytelling and the racial politics of the storytelling might want to understand how that informs that storytelling, and I respect that and I hear that, and those things are not things we didn't think about or don't think about. The racist a--holes should go f--k themselves."

When asked to clarify whether changing the race of Roland was part of the initial conception of the movie or something that came about in the casting, Goldsman said,

"100 percent it was literally, entirely who do we think the best guy for the job is and can we get him. That was it."

"For me, casting is an extrapolation. As soon as you are having an actor play a character, whether they be living or fictional, it's different. Movies are not lives, movies are not books," he said. "I think what we do as filmmakers is we interpret, and you are welcome to agree with our interpretation at any turn, but I encourage you to do it based on thoughtful, aesthetic acceptance and open-heartedness and not bias."

My reactions from this is this:

1. Please don’t think that everyone that don’t want Elba as Roland are racists. I know I’m not.
2. The line "I think what we do as filmmakers is we interpret” is making me a bit worried that they might not follow the book as much as interpret the books.

I guess we’ll see come January 27 next year…
