STEPHEN KING

DOCTOR SLEEP

STEPHEN KING to return to the characters and territory of one
of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in 2013

‘Hugely anticipated’ – The Sunday Times

King says he wanted to know what happened to Danny Torrance, the boy at the heart of The Shining, after his terrible experience in the Overlook Hotel. The instantly riveting, stand-alone novel, Doctor Sleep picks up the story of the now middle-aged Dan.

On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless - mostly old, lots of polyester, and devoted to their comfortable Recreational Vehicles. But they live off the ‘steam’ that children with the ‘shining’ produce when they are slowly tortured to death.

Following a childhood haunted by the time he spent with his parents at the Overlook Hotel, Dan Torrance has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father's legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles into a job at a nursing home in rural New Hampshire where his remnant ‘shining’ power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying.

Aided by a prescient cat, Dan becomes ‘Doctor Sleep’.

Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan’s own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra’s soul and survival...

Publication of the hardcover, eBook and digital download will be September 24, 2013. And if you want a taster before then, check out the CD or digital download of The Wind through The Keyhole in which Stephen King reads the Prologue.

Mercy synopsis

Posted: February 28, 2013, 21:45
_
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming Mercy, based on Gramma.

Based on a short story by Stephen King, Mercy tells the tale of two young boys (The Walking Dead’s Chandler Riggs and Super 8’s Joel Courtney) who move with their mother to take care of their dying grandmother at her decrepit farmhouse. When they suspect that the elderly woman they love has encountered a dark spirit, they fear she might not be the only one who won’t make it through the summer alive.

Once George (Riggs) and Buddy McCoy (Courtney) arrive at their Gramma Mercy’s (Shirley Knight), what they find inside her 150-year-old home is nothing short of terrifying. As the brothers experience deeply disturbing phenomena they believe to be the work of an ancient witch, they must fight for their lives and overcome the evil forces threatening their family.

Directed by Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut), Mercy is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister), McG (Terminator Salvation, Charlie’s Angels) and Mary Viola (Brooklyn’s Finest, We Are Marshall) of Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Another lead role has been filled for the CBS adaptation of Stephen King's "Under the Dome" as former Twilight star Rachelle Lefevre signs on to the miniseries, which will premiere in June.

Per THR, Lefevre will play Julia, an investigative reporter who just moved from Chicago to Chester's Mill with her husband, a doctor at the town's medical center. Joyland in the UK

Who dares enter the King's funhouse of fear? Hodder & Stoughton will publish the audio digital download of King's Joyland. Here is the press release:

Hodder is proud to announce that they will publish the audio digital download of Stephen King’s JOYLAND on June 4, 2013. US imprint, Hard Case Crime, will publish the paperback original. Rights in the audio were acquired from Chuck Verrill at Darhansoff & Verrill for British Commonwealth, excluding
Canada .

‘I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts,’ says Stephen King who has combined these elements into a wonderful new novel.

JOYLAND is both a whodunit noir crime novel and a haunting ghost story set in the world of an amusement park. It tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a ‘carny’ in small-town North Carolina and has to confront the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the way both will change his life forever. It is also a wonderful coming-of-age novel about friendship, loss and your first heartbreak. As Devin reflects: 'That fall was the most beautiful of my life. Even forty years later I can say that. And I was never so unhappy, I can say that, too. People think first love is sweet, and never sweeter than when that first bond snaps.'

King's UK editor, Philippa Pride, says: ‘JOYLAND is a beautifully written, sometimes joyous, sometimes heartrending, always gripping story, the ending of which will move you to tears as you
listen. It is part of a bumper year for Stephen King and Hodder in 2013 in both audio and print form.’

February sees publication of the mass market paperback of The Wind through the Keyhole, the new Dark Tower novel which the Guardian describes as ‘a gem of a novel, enchanting and
enchanted’, cinema goers viewing the highly anticipated remake of Carrie in the autumn will be racing to buy a tie-in paperback edition and audio, and readers and listeners are already queuing for September’s giant hardcover, Doctor Sleep, in which King revisits the territory and characters of The Shining. Bag of Bones is due to be seen on UK television within the next year.

I couldn’t resist...

...telling you about this thing I found out today. Between 1993 and 2005 the TV series NYPD Blue" aired in the US. Along with "The Sopranos" this was the absolute best thing you could watch on TV. In 2003 the first two seasons were released on DVD, but then nothing happened. Not until 2006 when season three and four was released. And then again nothing... until now.

Today I saw that in England season 5 to 12 will be released on DVD within just over two months. Season 5 and 6 is being released on Monday February 18, season 7 and 7 on February 25, 9 and 10 on March 25 and season 11 and 12 on April 29. This means that me and every other fan of the show will finally be able to own all 12 seasons.

Covers for season five to ten.
