Season 2 of Castle Rock will be released on Blu-ray and DVD May 19, 2020. There will be all-new bonus content but exactly what that will be hasn’t been revealed yet.
News has just come in that Amazon Studios has passed on The Dark Tower pilot. The adaptation came from executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara and MRC. Word is that Amazon executives felt like the pilot was not on the level of other large-scope elevated genre series the streamer has in production/pre-production like Wheel Of Time and The Lord Of the Rings.
The Dark Tower TV series was designed to be independent from the 2017 film and was meant to be a more faithful retelling of the books than the movie was. The TV series started from the beginning with Wizard & Glass (many years before the events in the movie) and focused on the origin story of Roland Deschain’s (Sam Strike), how he became a gunslinger and his first conflict with The Man in Black (Jasper Pääkkönen).
I so want this car that was used in the filming of Christine but $400,000 to $500,000 is way more that I have… But admit it would be cool to ride around town in this beauty!
2020 Audie Awards to Honor Stephen King for Lifetime Achievement in New York City on March 2.
Mr. King, a four-time Audie Award® winner and seventeen-time nominee, is the author of more than sixty books, all of them worldwide bestsellers. A long-time advocate for audiobooks, Mr. King once wrote of his love of the format: “The spoken word is the acid test. They don’t call it storytelling for nothing.” Mr. King has narrated some of his own audiobooks, published audiobook originals, and has used his megaphone to highlight the joys of listening.
2020 is here and Lilja’s Library is starting its 24th year as the number one fan site for everything Stephen King related. And for that I want to thank you!
Even though it’s true that if no one visited the site I’d probably still keep it up and running and posting stuff, but I would lie if I said anything other than it’s you that makes it fun!
What makes it fun is all of you that come here and read what I write. All of you that comment on the stuff that I write. All of you that out of the blue contact me and want to talk Stephen King. That is what makes my day and I hope you’ll keep making my day for many years to come by visiting the site, by commenting on facebook, twitter or Instagram, by sending me messages showing me your collection or asking some question about King or his work.
In 2020 I’ll keep posting news about Stephen King and his work and I’ll keep reviewing and interviewing people that is in some way involved with Stephen King and his work. I will also plan how to celebrate the fact that the site turns 25 years next year, we do need to celebrate right? And how do you celebrate something that has been a big part in your life a quarter of a century? If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!
And last (and least fun). If you want to help out financing the site, I appreciate donations, small or big through my paypal.

2020 inleds med nyheten att Ekström & Garay släpper Varsel i Mörkret (Shining in the Dark) på svenska i storpocket under våren. Exakt datum och omslag kommer.
Swedish publisher Ekström & Garay will release Varsel i Mörkret (Shining in the Dark) in a Swedish trade paperback in the spring of 2020. Exact date and cover to come.
2019 was a great year. We got a new book, we got new movies and we got a few TV series. Stephen King is more popular that he has been for years. New fans find his work every day (even if some go through the movies) and we old fans love that he is still as productive as he is.
My favorites this year are as follows.
Book:The Institute. Not much competition there since this was one of those rare years where King only released one book.
Movie:Doctor Sleep. I love how they combined the adaptation of the book with the movie (which I don’t even like) and Rebecca Ferguson is one of the best castings in a King movie I have seen. IT part 2 came in a close second followed by In the Tall Grass. I do my best to forget the remake of Pet Sematary which was awful.
TV Series: Season 2 of Castle Rock. I love the backstory to Annie Wilkes. The third season of Mr. Mercedes worked but it wasn’t as good as it could have been.
As for myself, I have made a lot of new friends over the year from all over the world and I hope to make even more in 2020. I did 23 lectures about King all over Sweden and the anthology Shining in the Dark was released in 5 new editions. 2020 will see much of the same. I will continue to do lectures about King. 8 so far has been booked in the spring (with more to follow) and I already know about 6 new editions of Shining in the Dark being released in 2020 making it a total of 19 (how about that Dark Tower lovers?) different editions in 10 different languages.
But in the end I want to thank you. If you didn’t read my site, Lilja’s Library, if you didn’t read Shining in the Dark or if you didn’t attend my lectures about King nothing of this would be possible. You make it happen and for that I am very grateful. Hopefully you will follow me into 2020 and keep reading what I write, keep sending me messages telling me about yourself and your King obsession (I love that) and keep coming to my lectures. If you do that I promise I’ll do my best to keep you updated on everything that happens in King’s world and hopefully throw in a few surprises along the way…
So, thanks for being there with your support. I hope I’ll see you in 2020!
Collider reports that yet another adaptation of Carrie might be happening. This time as a limited series by FX and MGM and Carrie will probably be played by a trans performer or an actress of color rather that a white woman if the reports are true.
Following a successful partnership on Fargo, FX and MGM Television are developing a limited series based on Stephen King‘s classic horror novel Carrie, Collider has exclusively learned.
Though it’s still very early in the development process and there’s no script yet, sources say that this time around, telekinetic teen Carrie White will likely be played by either a trans performer or an actress of color rather than a cis white woman, as in past adaptations. FX declined to comment, while a representative for MGM TV did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
What are your thoughts on this? Do we need yet another adaptation of Carrie?
It’s been a great 2019 for my book Shining in the Dark and I’m very happy to let you know that 2020 will be just as exciting if not more. The one edition I can talk about so far is the Bulgarian audio edition that Storytel will release in February. That one will be followed by two new editions in languages that already excists as well as two edition in totally new languages. I’m sorry I can’t reveal what editions and languages they are but as soon as the publishers are ready I will. I’m very excited and as you can see, so is Marv.
On January 21st (digital) and February 4th (Blu-ray) a director’s Cut of Doctor Sleep will be released and Mike Flanagan himself told me it will be 180 minutes and have about 28 minutes of new material.
Joblo reports that Epix has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to a drama based on King's short story Jerusalem’s Lot starring Adrien Brody.
Peter Filardi and Jason Filardi will write the series which is set in the 1850s and follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.
Production is set to begin in May 2020 with a planned release in fall 2020.
This series is an intense, absolutely terrifying reimagining of classic gothic horror. We can’t wait to work with the exceptional team of Donald De Line and Jason and Peter Filardi, along with our phenomenal lead actor, Adrien Brody…and of course, when it comes to horror, it doesn’t get any better or more masterful than Stephen King.

Collider reports that Keith Thomas has been tapped to direct a remake of Firestarter for Universal, Blumhouse and Akiva Goldsman‘s Weed Road banner. Scott Teems is adapting King’s book and Jason Blum and Oscar winner Goldsman will produce.
Here are my thoughts about season 2 of Castle Rock.
So, while I really enjoy the Annie story there is too much filling for my taste here. They should just have let Annie run with the story and we’d have had a great season.
Deadline reports that a new adaptation of The Dark Half is being planed.
MGM has set Alex Ross Perry to adapt and direct The Dark Half, a new adaptation of the 1989 Stephen King bestseller. Perry popped after writing, directing and producing Her Smell, the drama that premiered at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, and for which Elisabeth Moss is Spirit Awards-nominated for her portrayal as a self-destructive rock star.
Perry plans a reinvention of a story first turned into a 1993 MGM film by the late zombie impresario George Romero.
What worries me is the line "Perry plans a reinvention of a story".
Mike Flanagan is interested in doing The Shining 3 that would focus on Abra Stone. Here is what he todl Den Of Geek:
“Absolutely. I would love it. And when I met Stephen King, I asked him, ‘Is there more? Do you have anything else for Abra Stone? Because my God, she’s so great.’ And he left it open. He said that he hadn’t thought about it before, but it was people asking questions like that that made him write Doctor Sleep. He started to really think about Dan.”
What do you think? Is it something you want to see happening?
Deadline reports that Thomas Jane and Courtney Lauren Penn will film From A Buick 8.
Actor Thomas Jane (The Predator) and producer Courtney Lauren Penn (Altitude) are teaming up to form LA-based content company Renegade Entertainment with Stephen King novel adaptation From A Buick 8 their first movie project on the docket.
Renegade, which will develop and produce film, TV, games and immersive content, is partnering with King to adapt and produce his 2002 thriller novel about a car which is a door to another dimension.
This one I'm really looking forward to. Joe Hill's comic Locke & Key premiers on Netflix February 2nd next year.
After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.
I’m happy to tell you that in early 2020 Storytel in Bulgaria will release Shining in the Dark as an audiobook. No narrators have been selected yet but as soon as I know more, I’ll update you.
I still cherish the warm welcome I got when I was in Sofia, Bulgaria to promote the paperback in January last year and I hope you will all enjoy the audio book as much as the paperback! Personally, I can’t wait to hear the story’s read in Bulgarian even if I won’t understand a word…
This edition makes it a total of 15 different editions of the book, and you can check them all out here.
Not sure what to give your friends and loved once for Christmas? What about a good book? Why not a copy of Shining in the Dark? Here is where you can get your edition:
Dane Dehaan has been cast opposite Julianne Moore and Clive Owen in Lisey’s Story. Dehaan will play Jim Dooley, a huge fan of Scott’s (Owen) books who feels strongly about his unpublished work being released to the world.
Lisey’s Story is Apple’s eight-hour limited series written and executive produced by Stephen King, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Marilyn Manson has released his cover of the Doors' The End. The cover is a collaboration with Shooter Jennings and the song will be used in the upcoming TV adaptation The Stand, where Manson is also acting in.
The single art is an original work by Manson himself and you can hear the song here.
Joan Allen is set to co-star opposite Julianne Moore and Clive Owen in Lisey’s Story, Apple’s eight-hour limited series written and executive produced by Stephen King, from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Allen will play Amanda, the oldest of Lisey’s sisters.
King wrote all episodes and King and Moore Wil be executive producers alongside Bad Robot’s Abrams’ and Ben Stephenson. Pablo Larraín will direct the series.
Here are my thoughs on Gwendy’s Magic Feather.
Chizmar knows his Castle Rock and he knows Gwendy. When we meet her this time she’s all grown up and living in Washington. The Button Box is almost forgotten until it mysteriously appears again, scaring Gwendy more than she thought was possible.
Stephen King is being turned into two different POP! figures. Not sure how I feel about them though. Do they really look like Steve? Isn’t he more of a t-shirt and jeans guy?
Here are my thoughs about season 3 of Mr Mercedes.
This leaves us with a season that still has all the characters we do like, Hodges, Holly and Jerome but it’s also a season that feels a bit thin and to compensate for that has been stuffed with padding that really doesn’t bring anything to the table. Season three is OK but not much more.
In this article about how Doctor Sleep did at the Box Office there’s also some interesting news, almost hidden.
Warners was so keen on Doctor Sleep that movie studio chief Toby Emmerich had already struck a deal with director Mike Flanagan and his Intrepid Pictures to script a sequel whose working title is Hallorann, drawn from the character who appears in both The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
What do you think? Do we want a sequel to The Shining and Doctor Sleep?
Here are my thoughts about Doctor Sleep.
Doctor Sleep is a great adaptation to King’s book and followup to Kubrick’s movie. The cast (specially Rebecca) is great as are the flashbacks to the original film. Mike has even thrown in a few nods to The Dark Tower. They are small but they are there if you know what you’re looking for.
Looks like the story of Gwendy will be a trilogy. The first book was a collaboration between King and Richard Chizmar, the second is written by Chizmar who tweeted the following about the third book:
Nope, I don't know when the third volume will be pulbished; it's not written yet. I also don't know if Steve and I will be co-writing. Depends on our schedules.
