Hodder & Stoughton announced today that they have bought The Wind Through the Keyhole for a release next spring. Here is the ful press release:
Hodder & Stoughton are delighted to announce the acquisition, from Chuck Verill at Darhansoff & Verrill
in New York, of THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE by Stephen King, a further title in the Dark Tower series, to be published worldwide in hardcover in the spring of 2012.
This novel will join the seven volumes, already published, that make up the series. As King's UK editor, Philippa Pride, puts it, 'For those of us who are hooked on the bestselling fantasy/adventure series already, it is a wonderful reunion! For readers who have yet to embark, it is a delightful way into the series as the novel stands perfectly alone - a story within a story - and features both the older Roland and the younger.'
Why did the author return to a series completed eight years ago? King had 'started thinking - and dreaming - about Mid-World again. What happened to Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susannah and Oy ...? There was a storm, I decided. One of sudden and vicious intensity. And little by little, a story began to take shape. I saw a line of riders, one of them Roland's old mate, Jamie DeCurry, emerging from clouds of alkali dust thrown by a high wind. I saw a severed head on a fencepost. I saw a swamp full of dangers and terrors. I saw just enough to want to see the rest.'
Verrill comments 'the book is fabulous, and should be wholly satisfying to both Dark Tower cognoscenti and newcomers who are bound to be drawn in.'
Hodder will relaunch rejacketted paperbacks of the entire series alongside, as part of their major King reissue programme.
On the question if King will be going to the UK in 2011 or 2012 the moderator of King's official board had this following interesting answer:
Too early to say, Ally, but with the proposed tour in France, possibly Germany and one or two other countries, I suspect it won't happen in 2012 either.
I don't know about you but I'm curious to what the unnamed one or two possible countries are...
Got a note about this www.darktower.com today and I must say I'm intrigued.
If my calculations is correct the clock will reach cero on October 1st and since that is way to early for both the new book Wind Through the Keyhole and the movie I guess it's the launch for a Dark Tower site (for both book, movie and comic) that will launch when we reach cero. What do the rest of you think? Comment on facebook or twitter.

It looks like Carrie will get a new chance on the stage. Here is a report from my favorit blogg:
It seems Stephen King musicals are on the prowl! Ghost Brothers is on the lose, and wouldn't ya know it. . . someone has decided that Carrie should be resurrected -- again. This time the musical!
This news hit today from out of nowhere. Apparently Bag of Bones start shooting on July 6th. Here is what Dread Central had to report:

The 'haunted vacation house' novel will be directed by Mick Garris, the writer/director on three previous Stephen King TV films including The Shining, The Stand and Desperation. Pre-poduction started today in the province.
Here are some photos from King's press conference at the Alliance Theater earlier this week. They are taken by Ken Marszalkowski who won the tickets in the contest that was held here at Lilja's Library. King answered questions and was interviewed.
Here is a first repport about King's apperance at The Alliance Theatre's "Taste of the Season". More to come...
Horror writer Stephen King says his first play, "The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," featuring haunting melodies by rocker John Mellencamp, is finally ready for the stage.
The musical, based on a legend about the deaths of two brothers and a girl at a rural cabin, was originally scheduled to debut at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre two years ago, but was postponed.
King says Mellencamp and the play's director weren't getting along. The new director is Susan Booth.
King says Mellencamp wanted it set in the South because he admires Tennessee Williams. King says that worked for him because he'd been reading William Faulkner novels.
He says the play, which opens next April, was designed for a small stage, small cast and small technical requirements, "sort of the anti-Spiderman."
Alliance Theatre is holding auditions for the upcoming Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. The list of what they are looking for also gives us a look at the different characters in the play:

Entertainment Weekly was supposed to talk to Ron Howard about his upcoming photo contest but ended up asking about The Dark Tower.
“We had to pull back to our September start date due to budget delays and ongoing story development and logistical issues, but Dark Tower is moving forward,” Howard said. “We’re thinking of starting in early spring now. I can’t really say who’ll be in it yet, but Javier Bardem has shown a great deal of interest. We’ll know by the end of the summer, when our flashing green light goes solid.” The project would start with a feature film, followed by six hours of TV content, starring the same actors as in the movie. “There are elements of the Dark Tower saga that are more personal and can be best dealt with on television,” Howard continued. “TV allows you to roll out details of the characters in a more methodical way.”
Looks like there is some interest in the remake of Carrie after all. Dread Central had the following report:
According to MovieWeb a source close to the one-dimensional acting goddess that is Megan Fox claims that she is more than a little interested in playing the role.
"Megan is a huge fan of the original and would love the chance to play the lead. She's 25 now, but she's sure she could still do justice to teenage Carrie. She's told her people to make it happen."

According to Variety "The River" writer Michael Green is at work adapting the Stephen King tome Under the Dome in preparation for DreamWorks TV to shop to broadcast and cable buyers in a few months.
King has commented on the remake of Carrie and he is very clear as to who he wants to see as Carrie... The following is from Talk Stephen King:
EW has a great quote from King about news of the Carrie remake. Like all of us, I think he's left scratching his head as to why such a project is necessary. In fact, he says the movie was better than the book!
King says, “I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and It. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing."
And then there's this wonderful gem: "Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast.”
Here are some info about season 2 of Haven:
Eric Balfour—who plays Duke Crocker on the Syfy series inspired by Stephen King’s THE COLORADO KID—recently spoke a little about HAVEN’s sophomore year.
Balfour talked with Collider about HAVEN, whose second season starts airing on Syfy July 15. “One of the most fun things that people are going to get to see in season two with Duke is the emergence of a love interest, in several different amalgamations,” Balfour reveals “I’m excited about that, and getting to see Duke not quite as confident as always. There’s a character who comes in this season that really pushes Duke’s buttons, and that’s not something you got to see a lot of last year.
“Mostly, what we’re excited about is just improving on what we did last year. We learned a lot from season one. It’s always a balance between what the network and the studio requires, and what we want to do creatively, and everyone has very valid points for what they need, but every season that you do something, you learn a little more about it. Although each season is unique and there’s always a different dynamic to the crew, the writing room and the actors, you still learn a lot from what you’ve already done. You learn what works and what doesn’t, and you can carry that into the next season.
“That’s the thing I’m hopeful for, for this season, but you never know. I’m only an actor on this show, so there’s only so much influence I can have. I try to offer my advice or insight, if they’re open to it, but at the end of the day, you can only say so much. I’m just hopeful that the second season improves on what we did in the first season, but you never really know until it’s all said and done, and on the screen. I really do love the character. I love the way that the writers write him, and the freedom that they give me to bring myself to the character. He’s a ton of fun to play.”
MGM and Screen Gems just announced that they’re going to team up and remake Stephen King‘s Carrie. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who also writes the script for Marvel's The Stand comic will pen the new script based on King’s first published work.
Here is some great news about Ghost Brothers of Darkland County and its world premiere that will take place at the Alliance Theatre on April 4, 2012. The show will run from April 4 - May 13, 2012.
On Tuesday, May 24 and Wednesday, May 25 the Alliance Theatre will have a "Taste of the Season". This is a free, by-invitation-only opportunity for season ticket holders and select VIPs to get a glimpse of the upcoming season's shows. King is scheduled to appear during the first evening and the press junket with other writers, directors and actors that will take place after the show.
Living in Sweden I won't be able to attend but be sure to check back as I will tell you all about it... You can also check out the Alliance Theatre site for more about this.
This is something you need to check out. Cemetery Dance has put the history of how the cover to their edition of Full Dark, No Stars was created on their site along with pictures of many early cover versions. I once did a smaller version of this about the cover for Under the Dome (see that here) and CD's report is very interesting and definitely something you don't want to miss! Check it out here.
Reports says that shooting of The Dark Tower has now been pushed forward to February 2012 but that we might know if it'll happen or not by July...
After reports about The Dark Tower going into turn around at Universal, suddenly rumors abound that the epic Stephen King adaptation is now slated for a Ron Howard-directed February 2012 start date.
However, the project must get the green light by July or the rights will go back to the author and filmmakers.
A somewhat sad update on The Dark Tower:
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal has dropped plans to start shooting the fall, as Goldsman is rewriting the script to reflect a lower budget. It hasn't been revealed how much lower the budget will be, or how that will affect the script, but it's still going to be a trilogy of movies and two TV series. Ron Howard is also still signed to direct the movie and the first episode of the TV show, with Brian Grazer producing and Goldsman writing all three movies.
The big question is whether this will affect the involvement of Javier Bardem, who signed on to play lead gunslinger Roland for at least the first movie and TV series back in April.
Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic version of The Walking Dead talks about King's involvment.
Robert Kirkman has offered an update on Stephen King's potential contribution to The Walking Dead television series.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of the original Image Comics title discussed the rumours of the legendary horror writer penning an episode of the show.
"That's been discussed a little bit," he said. "Everyone involved on both sides of that are very anxious to make that happen; AMC is excited; [Creator/executive producer/director] Frank Darabont is excited; I'm excited. I know Stephen King and [his son and fellow writer] Joe Hill are excited. We'll see if we can make that come together. I can neither confirm nor deny."
He once again dismissed rumours of scriptwriters being fired from the show.
"We have a full writing staff; there are three full-time staff writers and a freelancer: Evan Reilly (Rescue Me), Scott Gimple (FlashForward) and Angela Kang (Terriers) and one freelancer," he said.
"Darabont and [new executive producer] Glen Mazzara and myself are all working on the show. All that reporting about the writers being fired and going freelance, that was all something that never really happened."
King revealed earlier in the year that he had been involved in discussions with the makers of the Walking Dead television adaptation.

HollyWood Reporpter has an update on the status of The Dark Tower. And it it's correct it's not good. This line made me worried...
A final decision is said to be expected soon on whether to move forward, seek additional financing partners or cancel the project entirely. But cast and crew have been told to stop prepping the project.
Here is the rest of the article: Imagine Denies 'Dark Tower' Trilogy in Turnaround As Questions MountMay
The ambitious plan by Universal, Imagine Entertainment and NBC to turn Stephen King’s The Dark Tower opus into a film trilogy with a television supplement has hit a major snag.
My favorit blog about King, Talk Stephen King reported something interesting today. Apparently King has been contributing to a book called Man with a Pan.
For the past two or three years (it's been so long that I lost track), I've been working on "Man with a Pan: Culinary Adventures of Fathers who Cook for their Families." The book is a recipe and essay collection featuring contributions from the likes of Mario Batali, Mark Bittman, Mark Kurlansky, Stephen King, and Jim Harrison, as well as interviews with a fireman, a high-school guidance counselor, an economist, a bond trader, a carpenter, and other working dads who tend the stove. It has cartoons, too.
Dread Central reports that Universal might have taken on to much when they agreed to do The Dark Tower. Here is what they say:
The challenge of bringing Stephen King's epic tale of gunslinger Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower is nothing short of a monumental task. Herculean even. With movies and TV shows promised, Universal is feeling some of the heat.
As per Variety:
Universal's unprecedented "Dark Tower" movie trilogy and interlocking TV series, seen as a hugely ambitious project from the start, may wind up being too big for the studio's appetite.
Sources tell Variety that in the last couple of days, the project, based on Stephen King's sweeping seven-book-and-counting series, has run into budgetary complications that have caused Universal execs to rethink their original plans. Insiders expect U brass to meet in coming days to decide whether to put the project into turnaround, whereby producer Imagine Entertainment could shop it to other studios, either to partner with Universal or take over entirely.
To be clear: Sources tell Variety that right now, Universal is moving ahead and is anxious to get the project up and going. The studio had no comment.
Ron Howard unveiled plans in September to adapt The Dark Tower for three films, the first of which he plans to direct, bridged by a pair of TV series. Universal soon came on as a distributor, given Imagine's production deal with the studio; NBC (or an affiliated cable net) was expected carry the TV component.
Javier Bardem's (pictured right) deal to play the lead role of Roland Deschain is nearly closed, while Howard is still eyeing thesps for other roles. Howard and Brian Grazer are producing through Imagine, while Akiva Goldsman is set to write the script.
Syfy and Entertainment One (eOne) announced that WWE Superstar Edge will join the cast of Haven in the guest-starring role of "Dwight Hendrickson." A shrewd, longtime Haven resident, Dwight served as a confidant to Nathan's (Lucas Bryant) late father and assisted the former sheriff in keeping particularly suspicious supernatural activity under wraps. Now as acting Sheriff of Haven, Nathan finds himself reaching out to Dwight just as his father did before him.
