Want to win a signed King book?

OK, it’s once again contest time here at Lilja’s Library and this time I have put together a prizepack from my personal collection that I think most of you will find exciting. Here is what I have put together for you.

One lucky winner will get…

…a US hardcover of The Dark Tower 5 – Wolves of the Calla that’s flatsigned by non other than Stephen King himself. This book was sent to me from King’s officie years ago so it’s no doubt that it’s the real deal.

…a paperweight that was given out at the publisher party, arranged by King’s UK publisher Hodder & Stoughton, in London when King was there promoting Lisey’s Story back in 2006. They only did 500 copies of it so it’s definitely a collector’s item.

OK, what’s the catch you might ask? How can you win this prizepack? Well, since I want to give this to one of all you loyal fans that’s been supporting me for all the years I’m going to try to do just that. Here are the three ways you can win:

The twitter way to enter:
1) Follow @liljaslibrary on twitter.
2) Cut and paste this on twitter (each post will be a entry):
Win a signed book by Stephen King! Retweet this to win! Follow @LiljasLibrary to be eligible http://liljas-library.com/article.php?id=3178

The facebook way to enter:
“Like” Lilja’s Library on facebook and then “Like” and/or “Share” at least one of my post (each Like or Share will be one entry).

The “speak your mind” way to enter:
Leave a comment to a piece of your choice here on the site (each comment will be an entry).

You can enter as many times as you like but you have to do it before July 31st. I will then present the lucky winner on August 1st!

Before I let you head out to enter I want to ask a favor of you. As you know I have never charged you for anything here at Lilja’s Library and I never will but since these items are pretty heavy and it will cost me quite a few $ to send this somewhere in the world. Yes, this contest is open to anyone, anywhere in the world I’m going to ask you to please consider stopping by the Donation page. It’s not required to enter and whether you do or not will not affect your chances to win BUT if everyone who enters donates $1 it would help me cover the cost for this contest...

Here is how Chloe Moretz describes the new version of Carrie:

“I am changing everything about me—my hair, my look,” Moretz tells Vanity Fair. “I’m doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version—it messes with your mind. You’ll see things, and you don’t know if you’ve seen them.”

First picture and casting news from Dexter

Posted: June 14, 2012, 00:34
_
The first picture from season 7 of Dexter is out and as you can see they are continuing exactly where season 6 ended.

Picking up immediately where the finale left off, Season 7 will open with Debra's horrified reaction to seeing her brother kill last season's baddie, Travis. "Viewers might think we shy away from that moment of Debra walking in and seeing Dexter stabbing into Travis' chest, but it's just the opposite," says executive producer Scott Buck. "She now has to deal with what she's seen and what she knows. And it forces him to defend and define himself."

And in casting news:

Yvonne Strahovski ("Chuck"; I, Frankenstein; Killer Elite) will play Hannah McKay, a strong, independent woman with a past that she's struggled to put behind her. As Miami Metro reopens old cases, the department turns to her for assistance while Dexter begins to wonder if there's more to Hannah than what she reveals.

And another recurring character has been added as Avatar and "The Shield" tough guy Matt Gerald joins the cast for a multi-episode arc as a violent blue-collar criminal.

Warner has now decided to make two movies instead of one based on King's IT. Cary Fukunaga will direct the two movies and also co-write the script with Chase Palmer. Roy Lee and Dan Lin will produce it together with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Production.

Stephen Comments on the Death of Ray Bradbury

Posted: June 7, 2012, 12:44

From King's official site:

"Ray Bradbury wrote three great novels and three hundred great stories. One of the latter was called 'A Sound of Thunder.' The sound I hear today is the thunder of a giant's footsteps fading away. But the novels and stories remain, in all their resonance and strange beauty."

Tom Holland to direct The Ten O’clock People

Posted: June 6, 2012, 00:20
_
Tom Holland will direct the movie version of King's The Ten O’clock People. Here are the press release:

“Veteran Director Tom Holland (“Fright Night,” “Child’s Play”) has signed on to adapt and direct the feature film “The Ten O’clock People,” a short story by Stephen King. Holland and King have previously collaborated on the popular thrillers “The Langoliers” and“Thinner.” After an extended hiatus, Holland returned to directing in 2007 as a featured director in the acclaimed “Masters of Horror” series for Showtime.Currently he is writing and directing “Twisted Tales,” a series of shorts for FearNet. “The Ten O’clock People” will be his highly anticipated and first theatrical release since“Thinner.”

King’s “The Ten O’clock People” was a short story published in 1993 as part of his “Nightmares and Dreamscapes” collection and was notable for being set in Boston, Massachusetts as opposed to his familiar Maine locale. The story follows Brandon Pearson, who in trying to kick his smoking habit uncovers a frightening aspect of reality, he plans to extinguish through extreme measures.

Inspired by his own struggle with kicking the habit, “ [this story] was Stephen trying to deal with his cigarette jones and the fairly new no-smoking laws back in the 90’s. This film will be a modernization of the original short story, a paranoid suspense piece,” commented Holland.

“With Ron Howard’s ‘The Dark Tower’ adaptation and remakes of‘Carrie’ and ‘The Stand’ on the horizon, 2013 is shaping up to be the year of King.” Said Producers Nathaniel Kramer and E.J. Meyers, “We’re excited to be contributing to it.”

“The Ten O’clock People” will begin filming this summer and is produced by Making Ten O’clock Productions and Holland’s Dead Rabbit Films.”

The King book that the fans like the most is...THE STAND. It got 2390 votes out of 10,000. That's 23,9% of the votes.

On second place we have IT with 1435 votes. That is 14,4% of the votes. This means that the top two books got more than 38% of the votes.

That tells me that these two are the books that the fans really like and that THE STAND is the #1 Stephen King book if the fans get to say.

Why Doctor Sleep is delayed

The moderator of King's board explaines the reason for the delay of Doctor Sleep:

Steve needs more time for editing as he doesn't feel it's anywhere near ready for publication. He has a number of projects he's working on so would not be able to accomplish that within the deadline they would need in order to get it ready for production for a January release.

I am a sold out author! Cemetery Dance just informed me that the trade edition of my book is now officially sold out. If you’re looking for a copy you might be able to get one at the bigger retailers but don’t wait too long since they will only be able to sell what they have in stock. Amazon.com has some left but the only other edition available at this time is the eBook that you can get here. It’s only $7.75 and there is even a free excerpt for you to check out.

OK, that was a bit off topic but I just had to tell someone and it might be a good reason for you to check out this contest

More about Joyland

Posted: May 30, 2012, 13:47
_
A new novel by Stephen King, Joyland, is to be published by Titan Books imprint Hard Case Crime in June 2013.

The book will be released as a paperback first, with e-book to follow at a later date. King said: "I loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we're going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book."

The title, set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.

Hard Case Crime editor Charles Ardai bought world rights in the title, with King's novel The Colorado Kid previously released under the imprint. The deal does not affect King's relationship with his usual UK publisher, Hodder.

Ardai said: "Joyland is a breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking book. It's a whodunit, it's a carny novel, it's a story about growing up and growing old, and about those who don't get to do either because death comes for them before their time.

"Even the most hardboiled readers will find themselves moved. When I finished it, I sent a note saying: 'Goddamn it, Steve, you made me cry.'"
