Gwendy’s Final Task is the third and final book about Gwendy Peterson and the button box. In the previous two books we have seen what the box can do and what it demands in return and it’s safe to say that the box isn’t a good thing. And for some reason Ferris thinks that Gwendy is the best person to hold on to it, to keep it safe from those who want it. But it has cost her. More than she could ever have guessed and ever wanted to give up. But still, here we are and now she has one more, one final thing to do to save the world from the box. Her final task.
As hinted on some of the covers for the book it has connections to The Dark Tower and as it turns out the box is wanted by those who want to destroy the tower. We see Low Men in Yellow Coats in the book and we see other connections to The Dark Tower universe as well. Are they needed? Do they work? I would say yes to both of those questions even though they do feel a bit squeezed in. I feel that they could have been developed a bit further in the plot. Now things move a bit fast, and it leaves some questions unanswered. Like why haven’t they gone after the box much earlier? Why wait until it was too late?
We also get to hear how the box is responsible for the Corona virus and a lot of other things and it really is a scary box that is for sure.
The Gwendy books are a bit different from what we’re used to from King and I guess it’s because he’s collaborating with Richard Chizmar here (who wrote the second book without King) and I get a feeling that the books are more Chizmar than King actually but I don’t know that for sure. And that’s not a bad thing. I like the books, but they are special and not the usual King book. It’s hard to put the finger on what’s different but they feel a bit easier to read and they are also quite short.

Lilja's final words about Gwendy's Final Task:
With that said I have enjoyed following Gwendy on her journey with the button box and now I hope that King and Chizmar merge the three books into one with a bit of extra story to tie them all into one longer book. Not sure if that will happen but one can hope right?
