American Vampire is a new comic. It contains two stories; Big Break by Scott Snyder and Bad Blood by Stephen King. Both stories are illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque and Snyder’s story is about Pearl Jones, an upcoming actress in the 1920’s and King’s is about Skinner Sweet who is an outlaw in 1880. Both these characters are transform into vampires in this first issue and even though they’re in different stories I have a very strong feeling that they will end up together. In Snyder’s story there is a character that really looks like Skinner and even though I’m not 100% sure they are one and the same I do believe they are.

The illustrations are really mature and I really like Albuquerque’s style. The colors are dark and you can really feel the darkness in the illustrations and that is very fitting for the story which is also quite dark. Both stories are well written and they really give of the impression that they were written by writers that have the same vision. They even could have been written by the same author and that is also one of the things that makes me think Skinner and Pearl will meet up and maybe live happily after.

Snyder’s story is more innocent then King’s. It focuses on an innocent girl that turns into a vampire in a very horrible way. In King’s story on the other hand the victim, Skinner, get’s what is coming to him and the only downside to that is that he will be even more dangerous now then he was before. I really enjoyed the first issue and if I have gotten the facts straight we’ll get four more issues that deals with Pearl and Skinners faith before it’s over and personally I can’t wait to get my hands on issue #2.

I’m very impressed of how synced King’s and Snyder’s stories, as well as Albuquerque’s illustrations, are. It’s fantastic that these three different artists get together and produce such a well produced issue. Very nicely done!
