Dread Central reports that Children of the Corn: Genesis will premier tonight in LA.
Now this is, shall we say, interesting! It seems that two sequels we've all been "waiting" for have made their way to a single theatre in California and will be playing in a double feature tonight. Oh, the horror!
That's right, kids. Thanks to DC reader Corbin921 we've been alerted of this cinematic happening that's bound to be nothing short of a gala event! Both the Doug Bradley-less Hellraiser: Revelations and Joel Soisson's Children of the Corn: Genesis will be playing TONIGHT at the Rave Motion Pictures 18 + IMAX, 6081 Center Drive, Los Angeles, CA - (310) 215-3483. If only Foy lived in LA. We're gonna try to get someone over there for some reviews. I'm sure both flicks have such sights to show us!

Can it be? Apparently it can. Bloody Disgusting reports that there will be yet another Children of the Corn movie. Personally I can’t see why this movie is being done at all but who knows…it might be good…
What a bizarre news day, eh? Bloody Disgusting just got tipped off that a new Children of the Corn is also in the works. Entitled Children of the Corn: The Dweller, Joel Soisson is set to direct from his own screenplay. Shooting is scheduled to begin this September is Los Angeles. Soisson, who produced the 2001 Children of the Corn: Revelation, directed both Pulse and Prophecy sequels for Dimension Films. He wrote the screenplays for Dracula 2000, and all of the sequels, along with Hollow Man II, Hellraiser: Hellworld and many others. The plot begins on a trip to California, a family's car overheats leaving them stranded in the home of a creepy couple and their kid.
Ehren Kruger has been hired to pen a new adaptation of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn tale, which has already inspired the 1984 New World release, several Dimension-issued sequels and a redux that hits the Syfy channel and DVD this fall.
“We felt the New World film was a missed opportunity,” Dimension topper Bob Weinstein tells Variety. “If you read the short story, it’s got such a strong feeling to it and there’s this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard. It’s popular in Hollywood to say you’re re-envisioning a project, but a lot of the time they’re just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story.”
The latest Children of the Corn is soon here:
Anchor Bay Entertainment has set an October 6 DVD street date for the remake of CHILDREN OF THE CORN that debuts this fall on the Syfy channel. Fango managed to snag a first look at the cover art, which you can see below.
Written and directed by Donald P. Borchers (who produced the 1984 CHILDREN feature), the latest adaptation of the Stephen King short story premieres on Syfy Saturday, September 26 at 9 p.m. David Anders and Kandyse McClure star as Burt and Vicki, the couple whose road trip leads them into a remote town populated by religious-fanatic kids led by Malachai (Daniel Newman) and Isaac (Preston Bailey). (ORPHAN’s Isabelle Fuhrman apparently does a voice in the movie.) Full specs for the DVD, which retails for $26.97 ($18.99 Amazon as of this post), are coming soon.
Here is the latest on the remake of Children of the Corn:
SCI FI Channel has cast its upcoming Children of the Corn remake, with David Anders, Kandyse McClure, Preston Bailey and Daniel Newman coming aboard the two-hour TV movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, based on the Stephen King novel, features Anders (NBC's Heroes) and McClure (Battlestar Galactica) as Burt and Vicky, a couple with marital problems whose attempt at a second-honeymoon driving trip ends up taking them into a seemingly deserted rural community that conceals a grim secret among its rows of tall corn.
Bailey plays boy preacher Isaac, while Newman plays his rebellious right-hand man, Malachai.
The movie, set to air next year, is shooting in and around Davenport, Iowa. Donald P. Borchers is directing from his own script.
The TV movie is supposed to be two hours long and here are some photos from the movie and another article about it.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Daniel Newman has been casted as Malachai in the remake of Childern of the Corn.
It has also been decided that Childern of the Corn won’t be filmed in Tipton and Wilton as the two cities looked “too large and too prosperous”. Read more here.
Here is even more Children of the Corn news:
TIPTON, Iowa — It won’t be as big as RAGBRAI, but Tipton is expecting closed streets and an influx of people and vehicles as it becomes one of two small towns chosen for filming scenes for the feature film, “Children of the Corn.”
The remake of a 1983 horror movie based on a Stephen King story will be filmed in the Quad-City area from Sept. 3 to 30.
Douglas Miller of Motion Pictures Midwest told the Tipton City Council that the director of photography and members of the art department will visit Tipton this week to make decisions concerning the scenes that will be shot there.
Tipton and Wilton will be used to represent the fictional town of Gatlin, Neb. Tipton’s downtown area, especially near the Hardacre Theatre on East 5th Street, is to be featured.
Travis Alden, community development director for Tipton, is excited Tipton was chosen for the movie scenes.
“In my opinion, this is perfect timing as we are fresh off of our RAGBRAI success and the logistics planning required for that will be helpful with this project,” he said.
Donald Borchers is writer, director and producer of the remake. He was a producer of the 1983 version, which was made in Sioux City.
If anyone happens to be on scene and has photos, please send them to me and I'll post them here.
More news about the upcoming Children of the Corn remake:
Bloody-Disgusting learned exclusively today that David Anders ("Heroes", Left in Darkness) and Kandyse McClure ("Battlestar Galactica", "Reaper") are the first to be cast in Anchor Bay and Starz Entertainment's made-for-TV remake of Children of the Corn, which will have it's premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel next year. Original producer Donald P. Borchers will be directing from his own screenplay. Former Vietnam vet BURT's marriage to VICKY is on the rocks, but Burt hopes to rekindle their old flame with a second honeymoon driving trip. Unfortunately, their journey takes them into the heart of darkness -- a seemingly deserted rural community that conceals a grim secret among its rows of tall corn... Shooting begins September 3rd in Davenport, Iowa.
The new Children of the Corn is rolling soon.
Iowa’s Quad-City Times reports that a remake of 1984’s CHILDREN OF THE CORN will be rolling on locations in the state next month. Written, produced and directed by Donald P. Borchers, one of the producers on the original movie (pictured), this CHILDREN will air Stateside on the Sci Fi Channel in 2009 and will play theatrically in Europe. Borchers tells the site that this adaptation of the Stephen King story will eschew the alterations that displeased both the author and his fans. “They put a lot of sugar, if you will, into the coffee,” he says. “Stephen King doesn’t take his coffee with sugar…it’s no longer requisite to have a happy ending. We wanted to stay faithful to the decisions in his original story.
“We are still scouting throughout the Quad-Cities and the countryside beyond, obviously, since it’s CHILDREN OF THE CORN,” Borchers says of his decision to lens in Iowa, where the ’84 film also shot. “My needs are quite simple. I need corn, and I understand you have that throughout the state.” Casting has not been finalized, though Borchers says, “I have a lot of interest of people wanting to be in it.”
Here is a part of a casting sheets for the Sci-Fi original production Children of the Corn:
ISAAC
AGE: 9 YEARS OLD. The leader of the Children of the Corn, this youngster is a smug, self-possessed, lethally self-righteous "little minister," maddened by power at a tender age. The so-called "prophet" who dictates the law in his secret community of religiously fanatical children, he bases his "theology" on bloody principles of sacrifice and sexuality. Proclaiming all adults "evil," Isaac allows his appointed "army" of youths to have their pick of the sect's females -- right up until the time that they become adults. Then, they, too, must be sacrificed to appease He Who Walks Behind the Rows, the quite possibly demonic entity who inhabits the cornfields that surround their community. When Vicky and Burt invade their sanctified, blood-soaked territory, Isaac orders them hunted down and sacrificed -- but learns that Burt is not the easy target he had anticipated...LEAD (23)
MALACHAI
AGE: 17-18 YEARS OLD. Preference for either football-player sized child or extraordinarily unique appearances. --- Isaac's right-hand man, this 18 year old youth heads the "army" of teens, armed with rude farm implements, that keeps order, insuring that Isaac's will is done. Convinced that Isaac is a prophet of the true God, Malachai willingly does his leader's bidding, however bloody. However, when Burt escapes his clutches, Malachai becomes Isaac's scapegoat, doomed before his time. Trying his best to keep his faith intact and his courage high, Malachai bids his pregnant girlfriend farewell and walks out to meet He Who Walks Behind the Rows -- a meeting from which no one has ever returned...LEAD (20)
Looks like a new Children of the Corn is on it’s way. This news is from Bloody Disgusting:
We broke the news back in June that Producer Donald P. Borchers would be writing and directing his own remake of Children of the Corn for the Sci-Fi Channel and Anchor Bay Entertainment, only that's just the beginning. We learned today that Dimension Films still owns the rights to the Stephen King story and has every intention of adapting it once again for the big screen! No word yet on who will tackle the project, but this could be cool if they do it right. More news as it comes in.
