Cary Fukunaga Talks IT

Cary Fukunaga talks about what he wanted to do with IT.

"I was on that for four or five years with Warners and then it got moved to New Line, right before we were about to go into production. I think New Line's view of what they wanted and my view of what I wanted were very different. I wanted to do a drama with horror elements, more like 'The Shining.' I think they wanted to do something more [pure horror] like 'Annabelle' [from the 'Conjuring' films]. That was essentially the disconnect."

Supercut Of IT With A Running Time Of 6,5 Hours

Director Andy Muschietti has confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that talks are underway with Warner Bros for an even longer version of IT. The plan is for a supercut that brings both films into one, adding in deleted material, and filming fresh scenes for it as well. Muschietti estimates his supercut will be around six and a half hours.

“People can choose how to see it, all in one or, you know, making little pauses”, Muschietti mused. “Or bingeing! Maybe it’s divided in episodes. People now, they binge a series for 10 hours of viewing, so it wouldn’t surprise me”.

“When Bill Denbrough walked into the thrift shop, he had a flashback of him and Beverly browsing the same place 27 years ago,” Muschietti said. “It was a little romantic moment there, and then they were approached by the shopkeeper as a younger version.”

There would have been no digital de-aging for King, however. Instead, the younger shopkeeper who ruins their tender moment would have been played by King’s son, author Joe Hill.

“Andy’s original idea was so genius,” King said. “He wanted to use Joe as that guy in a flashback with the kid, and it would’ve worked because Joe and I look a lot alike.”

Alas, the idea was never shot. “We started with a script that was 160 pages, and that was the short version,” Muschietti said. “Unfortunately, we had to shave it off. It was impossible.”

How About A Superversion Of IT?

In an interview with SFX Magazine Andy Muschietti said he’s open to not only combining the two IT movies to one long he also says there might be different versions of the movies.

“The possibilities are open. There’s a version where the two movies are cut together. There’s a version where there’s a special director’s cut of number one and a special director’s cut of number two. And I’m happy to basically work on every one of them,”

The running time of IT: Chapter 2 is 165 minutes (the directors cut would probably exceed the 3 hour mark) but Muschietti reveals that the first cut of IT: Chapter 2 was around 4 hours.

So, if there ever is a super version (it’s not confirmed that this will actually happen) of the movies there is no telling how long they would be…

/Film has seen a clip from IT: Chapter 2 at CinemaCon 2019 in Las Vegas and here is what they said about it.

It: Chapter 2: The It Chapter 2 footage shown at CinemaCon wasn’t a trailer, but rather a scene that gave way to a quick sizzle reel. The scene in question is lifted directly from Stephen King’s book. The adult Bev Marsh (Jessica Chastain) returns to her childhood home in Derry, looking for her father. Instead, she encounters an old woman named Mrs. Kersh now living in the house. Mrs. Kersh sadly informs Bev that her father passed away, and then invites Bev into her house.

Bev obliges. Once inside, she finds the old poem on the postcard Ben sent her in the first film. And then things start to get creepy. “You know what they say about Derry,” says Mrs. Kersh. “No one who dies here never really dies.” She fixes Bev with a scary, blank stare, and sure enough, Pennywise soon rears his ugly head.

IT-Themed Versions Of Clue & Monopoly

CLUE takes the classic mystery game even further into shrouded chaos as Bill Denbrough and his friends attempt to determine Pennywise’s Plan. Travel between the The House on Neibolt Street, the Synagogue, Derry Public Library, and more to identify various items used to lure the town’s youth, while avoiding Red Balloons that will end the operation before the menacing killer’s Plan can be uncovered. CLUE: IT will be available this March.

Two New Pennywise Figures

Once again NECA has created versions of Pennywise that takes your breath away.

The first one is called Ultimate Well House Pennywise (Release Date: Q1 2019).


From the acclaimed 2017 horror film IT, drawn from the pages of Stephen King’s original novel, NECA presents Pennywise the Dancing Clown!

Based on Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of the nightmare-inducing clown, this 7” scale figure has been painstakingly detailed to be as accurate to Pennywise’s ornate costume as possible. To recreate even more of the most terrifying scenes from the movie, this version features 4 all-new head sculpts, a fencepost that can be inserted into one of the heads, a new monster right hand, new grabbing hands, and an additional new left hand.

A group of fans at CCXP in Brazil were lucky enough to see some new footage from the second IT movie and here is a report about what they saw.

"Thankfully, they did share a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel, which looked like the type of video a studio would share with promotional partners to get them excited about the sequel. In the video, we saw director Andy Muschietti talk about what he hopes to accomplish with the anticipated sequel, saying it will be serious, more intense, and have scarier moments. The video also showed some pre-production artwork, including the different departments working on the film.

"Another part of the video showed new cast members Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and others talking about what the film is about. There wasn’t much footage from the film, but we did see a shot of the cast together walking across a bridge.

"My favorite part, however, was some video from the very first table read. While we didn’t get to see the cast reading any lines, the video showed this massive table with every cast member listed getting ready to read the script."

James Ransone talks to Metro about his part in IT: Chapter 2 and confirms that King has visited the set. There has been a rumor circulating that King has a cameo in the movie. That has not been confirmed though.

Ritual Of Chüd Inluded In IT Part 2

Screenwriter Gary Dauberman has confirmed that the Ritual of Chüd will be included in the second IT movie.

“The Ritual of Chüd is challenging, but it’s such an important component to the book that we had to address it. That stuff is difficult to balance, but because (director Andy Muschietti, producer Barbara Muschietti and I) worked with each other before, when I’m writing pages and all that stuff it becomes more of a conversation and less like, ‘Hey, here’s what I did.’ It’s sort of organic; it’s really kind of just chipping away at the stone and trying to find the most focused, accessible way into some of more metaphysical aspects of that book.”

IT: Chapter 2 At Comic Con

Movieweb had the following to report about IT: Chapter 2 presence at Comic Con.

IT 2 only recently started shooting, so there wasn't a completed trailer yet. But Pennywise did manage to make his way onto the big screen in front of a crowd of screaming fans. This first footage probably won't show up online unless someone bootlegs it. The scene in question introduces Bill Hader as the grown up Richie and James Ransone as the much older Eddie.

Before showing off the footage at Comic-Con, director Andy Muschietti talked a bit about his sequel, and called this a much scarier movie. Muschettie is returning to direct IT 2, which catches up with the Losers' Club as adults in 2019. Everyone is 30 years older, and still quite scared of that old dancing clown Pennywise. They survived their first encounter with the demon back in the 1980s, but they may not have the same kind of luck this time around.

IT: Chapter 2 Scarier & More Intense

Andy Muschietti teased a bit about IT: Chapter 2 at Warner Bros’ presentation at CinemaCon.

The sequel, appropriately titled IT: Chapter Two, will cover the second half of the novel, taking us back to Derry, 27 years after the events in the first film. Although we still have over a year to go before the release of the sequel, Muschietti is already preparing audiences for the tone the film will have.

Among the material shown (and teased) by Warner Bros. during their panel at Cinem Con was that of IT: Chapter 2, with Muschietti teasing it is “going to be scarier and more intense,” and even advising the audience to “bring your adult diapers.” The studio also teased the beginning of production this summer, but didn’t reveal any details.

The only names confirmed for the sequel are the young versions of the Losers Club, as the film will feature a few flashbacks and Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise.

IT: Chapter 2 Starts Filming This Summer

Collider reports that IT: Chapter 2 will start filming this summer in Toronto.

The sequel was officially announced just two weeks after IT landed in theaters, and with the follow-up set to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019, Indiewire reports that IT: Chapter 2 is will start filming this summer in Toronto. “The script is still being finalized and the locations are currently being scouted in anticipation of shooting then,” producer Roy Lee confirmed to the outlet. Muschietti is set to return as director, along with his sister, producer Barbara Muschietti, and screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who reworked the original script for the first film from the draft by Cary Fukunaga and Chase Palmer.
