New Omnibus Gwendy Edition With New Introduction

Here is the cover by Ben Baldwin for next years omnibus edition of The Gwendy Trilogy. It will be published by Gallery Books (in the spring next year) and by Cemetery Dance (later in 2025). King and Chizmar have written a joint introduction entitled Butch and Sundance.


I’m still hoping for a version where they have edited the three books into one.

Looks like the story of Gwendy will be a trilogy. The first book was a collaboration between King and Richard Chizmar, the second is written by Chizmar who tweeted the following about the third book:

Nope, I don't know when the third volume will be pulbished; it's not written yet. I also don't know if Steve and I will be co-writing. Depends on our schedules.

He said, “I’m going to be spending the foreseeable future with Holly Gibney [a character in his Mr. Mercedes novels and The Outsider who is a major character in his newest book], but you should write it.”

Hodder & Stoughton is releasing Gwendy’s Button Box in the UK. The book is written by Stephen King & Richard Chizmar. The eBook and audio digital download have just been released and Hodder will follow up with a hardcover edition on 27 June.

King and Chizmar’s collaboration, Gwendy’s Button Box, is out and you know what that means…

I want to put together a page with photos of you all and your copy of Gwendy’s Button Box. The book Stephen King and Richard Chizmar has written is called Gwendy’s Button Box and will be released by Cemetery Dance in May.

Here is a description of the plot. Something that exits me extra with this is the line: ”We ought to palaver, you and me“. We have heard that word Palaver before right…

The little town of Castle Rock, Maine has witnessed some very strange events and unusual visitors over the years, but there is one story that has never been told...until now.

There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route 117, Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of 1974 twelve-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong (if time-rusted) iron bolts and zig-zag up the cliffside.

At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. From a bit farther away comes the chink of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball as the Senior League kids practice for the Labor Day charity game.

One day, a stranger calls to Gwendy: "Hey, girl. Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me."

On a bench in the shade sits a man in black jeans, a black coat like for a suit, and a white shirt unbuttoned at the top. On his head is a small neat black hat. The time will come when Gwendy has nightmares about that hat...

Here is what King said about working with Richard:

“I had a story I couldn’t finish, and [Chizmar] showed me the way home with style and panache,” King said in a statement. “It was a good time, and I think readers will have a good time reading it. If they are left with questions, and maybe have a few arguments, all the better.”

“Steve sent me the first chunk of a short story,” Chizmar says. “I added quite a bit and sent it back to him. He did a pass, then bounced it back to me for another pass. Then, we did the same thing all over again – one more draft each. Next thing you know, we had a full-length novella on our hands. We took a free hand in rewriting each other and adding new ideas and characters. The whole process took about a month.”

This Is Castle Rock

How much do you know about King’s fictional town Castle Rock? Well, I did some research and found this that might be good to know with the upcoming King/Chizmar collaboration and the Hulu series.

Castle Rock is located 37 miles from Portland and 180 miles from Boston. The town’s population was 1,280 in 1959 and 1,500 in 1991. No more recent number has been found.


King wrote six books that takes place in the town. They are, in publication order: The Dead Zone (1979), Cujo (1981), The Dark Half (1989), Needful Things (1991), Bag of Bones (1998) and Lisey's Story (2006).

King has also written some short stories that takes place in Castle Rock. They are, in publication order: The Body (1982), It Grows On You (1982), Uncle Otto's Truck (1985), The Sun Dog (1990), The Man in the Black Suit (1997) and Premium Harmony (2015)

There has also been a lot of reference to Castle Rock in King’s works throughout the years. Here they are in publication order: Graveyard Shift (1978), One on One (1978), The Stand (1978), Creepshow (1982), Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (1982), Pet Sematary (1983), Gramma (1985), Mrs. Todd's Shortcut (1985), Nona (1985), The Mist (1985), It (1986), Gerald's Game (1992), The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (1999), Riding the Bullet (2000), Kingdom Hospital (2004), N. (2008), Under the Dome (2009), A Good Marriage (2010) and Dr. Sleep (2013).

There have also been numerous characters living in Castle Rock during the years and here are some that you should recognize. They may or may not show up in the new work but they will probably be referred to in some way…

Chizmar & King Novella Returns To Castle Rock

Richard Chizmar gave us this update on the novella he has written with King:

I can't tell you the title yet. I can't tell you the plot synopsis. And I can't tell you publication details. But I can tell you that readers will soon be heading back to a small town in Maine called Castle Rock.

I don't know about you but I'm superexcited!

2017: The Collaboration Year

Two weeks ago I wrote that 2017 would be a great year for King adaptations. Well, it will also be a great year for King collaborations. Earlier King has only released books with two authors, Peter Straub (The Talisman and Black House) and Stweart O’Nan (Faithful). He has also released two short stories with his son Joe Hill (In the tall Grass and Throttle).

In 2017 two King books will be released and both are collaborations. The first one we learned about just two days ago and is a collaboration with Richard Chizmar. We don’t know anything about this story or when it will be released but based on what Rich wrote about it on his facebook page it will be released soon as a standalone hardcover. My guess is something like when CD released Blockade Billy.



The second book is also a collaboration. This time King has collaborated with his son Owen and together they have written Sleeping Beauties that will be released in October 2017. And even though it’s “only” 8 months until the book is out we don’t know much about it.

The idea, a story about what would happen if all the women in the world fell asleep, came from Owen and it took King and Owen over two years to write the book. So far King has read two excerpts from it (they are NOT online though). One from a man’s point of view, and one from the point of a view from a female character, who is existing in another dimension.

The official synapse is:

What would happen if all the women abandoned the world? A wildly provocative novel of supernatural suspense, SLEEPING BEAUTIES is the first father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

I think 2017 will be a great King year! What are your thoughts?
