Stephen King To Appear In Sarasota

Bradenton Herald reports that King will do a book signing in Sarasota.

Stephen King will be at the shop starting at 2 p.m. March 15 to sign copies of his latest book, “End of Watch.”

There are some pretty strict rules about King’s book singing. You have to buy the book at Bookstore 1, and you can’t bring any other book or any piece of memorabilia for him to sign.

“End of Watch” is on sale now, and when you buy it at Bookstore 1, you’ll get a ticket to bring back on March 15. The ticket will reserve your place in line.

King on The Road: Report

Earlier this summer, Stephen King undertook a hectic multi-city tour of America in support of his latest book, End of Watch. But rather than hit the standard, book-tour metropoles, King chose to visit smaller cities offering, in some small way, tribute to the places and characters that make up his impressive oeuvre. Traveling along with King was Scribner’s Katie Monaghan, an “entourage of one,” who offers here her reports from the road, as sent to the mothership in New York.

Read it all here.

End of Watch Tour: Day 4 - Charleston

Here is a report from the Charleston stop on the End of Watch tour from Paul Taylor.

Steve did not read from any work. He told all manner of anecdotal stories about how his ideas came about, the writing process, and stories about his finished books and movies. He had the audience rolling with laughter much of the time. He also mentioned how he and his son Owen have collaborated on a book set in a womens' prison in West Virginia. A first draft of that work has been finished. A Q&A followed. He was on stage about 1 hour 10 minutes.

Joel Thornsbury also reported that the title of Steve and Owen’s book will be Sleeping Beauties.

End of Watch Tour: Day 2 - Sewickley

Kurt Roberts sent me these photos and a report on what happened yesterday.

Some photos from Pittsburgh, PA tonight. Fantastic evening, and King read us his short story The Music Room from the 'In Sunlight or In Shadow' collection edited by Lawrence Block coming out in December.

Some great questions from the audience including his thoughts on remakes (discussed IT a bit), being a reader/writer, and if he regrets anything he's published. (He's not fond of Tommyknockers, Dreamcatcher, and discussed pulling Rage from circulation. Made a joke about Children of the Corn sequels, and would like to see 'COTC vs Leprechaun' lol.

Very funny and very gracious, told a funny Creepshow story, and the basis for the now complete Mercedes trilogy.

Is the ending a good ending? Yes! End of Watch is a great book and together with Mr Mercedes and Finders Keepers it’s a great story about the retired detective Bill Hodges.

The cell rings twice, and then his old partner in his ear... 'I'm at the scene of what appears to be a murder-suicide. I'd like you to come and take a look. Bring your sidekick with you, if she's available...'

Retired Detective Bill Hodges now runs a two-person firm called Finders Keepers with his partner Holly Gibney. They met in the wake of the 'Mercedes Massacre' when a queue of people was run down by the diabolical killer Brady Hartsfield.

Brady is now confined to Room 217 of the Lakes Region Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, in an unresponsive state. But all is not what it seems: the evidence suggests that Brady is somehow awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room...

Both a stand-alone novel of heart-pounding suspense and a sublimely terrifying final episode in the Hodges trilogy, End of Watch takes the series into a powerful new dimension.

King being interviewed by George RR Martin

King will be joined by George RR Martin at Albuquerque End of Watch tour. King will be interviewed by Martin. Here is the press release.

Stephen King to Appear with George RR Martin at Albuquerque End of Watch Tour

ALBUQUERQUE—Longtime Albuquerque indie bookstore, Bookworks, hosts Stephen King June 16 at the Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center, one of twelve stops on a national tour promoting his new novel, End of Watch. What was already an unbelievable event opportunity has become even more notable, with a very special guest announced as part of the billing.

George RR Martin, Game of Thrones creator, beloved New Mexico author, and patron of the arts, will join King on stage at the Kiva Auditorium, for conversation and an element of literary fantasy that fans of the esteemed authors will find hard to resist.

“We were talking one day at the store about the event, daydreaming about how we would ever be able to score an event more epic than Stephen King. ‘But what if we got George RR Martin to interview Stephen King,’” recalls Bookworks event coordinator Amanda Sutton. Martin has been a friend of indie booksellers in New Mexico and has taken part in several events with the store, including a sold-out in-conversation event with Diana Gabaldon in 2013. Martin also frequently hosts renowned authors at his Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe.

During a conference call with King’s assistant and publicist at Scribner, the Bookworks team mentioned the idea to have the two authors appear together.

The pieces fell into place when Martin contacted his agent, Chris Lotts, also Stephen King’s agent, expressing interest in hosting King at the Cocteau. No new events were able to be added to the tour, but Martin was invited and graciously agreed to join the bill for the Albuquerque event. He will be in conversation with Stephen King’s son, author Joe Hill, in May 23 at the Cocteau upon release of his book The Fireman. On June 16, Martin will appear with King at the Kiva Auditorium. Both authors are delighted to share the stage.

The authors will sign books prior to the event. Every attendee will receive an End of Watch hardcover with ticket purchase, with 400 signed copies to be distributed at random. End of Watch is the third book in the Bill Hodges trilogy, which began with Mr. Mercedes, an Edgar Award winner, followed by Finders Keepers. All the books in the trilogy, along with many of Mr. King’s titles, will be available at the event, as will signed books from Mr. Martin.

Tickets for Stephen King in Conversation with George RR Martin are available online at bkwrks.com/stephen-king, by phone at 505-344-8139, or in person at Bookworks, at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Albuquerque.

What can we expect in 2016?

2016 is almost here and I think it’s time to see what we have to look forward to.

When it comes to books we have the third and last book in the series about Bill Hodges, End of Watch coming on June 7. Besides that we don’t know about any new books. King has released about two books a year for a while so there might be another one we don’t know about it yet.

When it comes to TV and movies we know that starting February 15 and eight weeks we’ll get to see if Jake Epping saves JFK in the Hulu TV version of 11/22/63. Besides that nothing has been confirmed but my guess is that Cell will be released during 2016. There is a date for the UK release but the studio hasn’t confirmed it yet.

And that is what we know so far. The remake of IT might be ready but they need to hurry if they want to get it out in 2016. Same goes for The Stand.

But while it looks like a “light” King Year there will probably be more things released in 2016, we just don’t know about it yet. I’d also like to remind you that Joe Hill (King’s son) will release his new book The Fireman in May and even though that’s not a Stephen King book I know I will check that one out.

What else are you looking for in 2016?

190 Days Left

190 Days until End of Watch. How excited are you?

Here are two descriptions (SPOILER) of the plot.

IN ROOM 217 OF THE LAKES REGION TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY CLINIC, SOMETHING HAS AWAKENED. SOMETHING EVIL.

Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, where eight people were killed and many more were badly injured, has been in the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic for five years, in a vegetative state. According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room.

Retired police detective Bill Hodges, the unlikely hero of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers, now runs an investigation agency with his partner, Holly Gibney, who delivered the blow to Hartsfield's head that put him on the brain injury ward. Brady also remembers that. When Bill and Holly are called to a murder-suicide with ties to the Mercedes Massacre, they find themselves pulled into their most dangerous case yet, one that will put not only their lives at risk, but those of Hodges’s friend Jerome Robinson and his teenage sister, Barbara. Because Brady Hartsfield is back, and planning revenge not just on Bill Hodges and his friends, but on an entire city.

In End of Watch, Stephen King brings the Hodges trilogy to a sublimely terrifying conclusion, combining the detective fiction of Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers with the supernatural suspense that has been his trademark. The result is an unnerving look at human vulnerability and up-all-night entertainment.

End of Watch is a compelling and chilling suspense novel which sees retired detective Bill Hodges back on the trail of his nemesis Brady Hartsfield, the criminal the press called The Mercedes Killer. Foiled in his attempt to commit a second mass murder, Hartsfield is confined to a hospital brain injury unit in a seemingly unresponsive state. But all is not what it seems: Brady is able to influence both his physician and the hospital librarian to commit crimes in the outside world. Now, the technological genius has created a hypnotic electronic fishing game which compels users to commit suicide, and he is determined to target the three people who put him in hospital - Hodges and his sidekicks Holly and Jerome. Then he plans to initiate a suicide epidemic. For Hodges - and the city - the clock is ticking in unexpected ways...Both a stand-alone novel and the final episode in the Hodges trilogy, End of Watchis a tense read which takes the series into a powerful new dimension.

- King will probably publish a new collection in the fall of 2015. No title or content has been revealed but here you can find what’s not been published yet. It will be stories previously published in magazines, etc. and whether there will be any completely new has not been decided yet.
