Listen To Batman and Robin Have an Altercation

Here you can listen to Stephen Lang reading Batman and Robin Have an Altercation as well as an interview with Stu Tinker.

In this episode actor Stephen Lang reads, “Batman and Robin Have an Altercation”, a -shall we say- intense story about family, love, and dying by Stephen King (yes, THAT Stephen King, need we say more?). Host Aparna Nancherla talks to Stu Tinker, a Stephen King superfan from King’s hometown of Bangor, Maine (get ready for that accent!). For nearly 20 years he’s been giving tours the spots that have inspired so many of author’s stories.

The Dune vs. The Dune

Posted: January 26, 2016, 22:29
_
Here is something for all your completest out there. It looks like there are some difference between the versions of The Dune that is in the printed version of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams and the audio edition of the same book. The reason for this is that the audiobook version was recorded before King made the edits for the hardcover release of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams and released as part of the Mile 81 audiobook (2012). Then they used the earlier version rather than re-record it for the audio edition of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.

The changes are not just a deleted or added word but whole sentences omitted or added. And there are quite a few of them.

So, if you want to experience every version of the story…you now got two.

A master storyteller at his best—the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story.

Since his first collection, Nightshift, published thirty-five years ago, Stephen King has dazzled readers with his genius as a writer of short fiction. In this new collection he assembles, for the first time, recent stories that have never been published in a book. He introduces each with a passage about its origins or his motivations for writing it.

There are thrilling connections between stories; themes of morality, the afterlife, guilt, what we would do differently if we could see into the future or correct the mistakes of the past. “Afterlife” is about a man who died of colon cancer and keeps reliving the same life, repeating his mistakes over and over again. Several stories feature characters at the end of life, revisiting their crimes and misdemeanors. Other stories address what happens when someone discovers that he has supernatural powers—the columnist who kills people by writing their obituaries in “Obits;” the old judge in “The Dune” who, as a boy, canoed to a deserted island and saw names written in the sand, the names of people who then died in freak accidents. In “Morality,” King looks at how a marriage and two lives fall apart after the wife and husband enter into what seems, at first, a devil’s pact they can win.

Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King’s finest gifts to his constant reader—“I made them especially for you,” says King. “Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth.”

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams info From Hodder

_
Hodder & Stoughton sent out this info about The Bazaar of Bad Dreams today.

A new collection of stories from Stephen King
Coming November 2015

Hodder and Stoughton is delighted to announce that they will publish Stephen King's new book The Bazaar of Bad Dreams on 3 November 2015. It will be released as a hardback, trade paperback for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, eBook and audio digital download.

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams is a thrilling collection of twenty stories – some brand new, some published in magazines, all entirely brilliant and assembled in one book for the first time – with a wonderful bonus: in addition to his introduction to the whole collection, King gives readers a fascinating introduction to each story with autobiographical comments on their origins and motivation. This will delight all his readers including those who loved his insight into the craft of writing in his non-fiction title On Writing.

Stephen King is the master of the short story form – the No. 1 bestselling writer has dazzled readers with his genius as a writer of novellas and short story fiction since his first collection Night Shift was published 35 years ago. He describes the nature of the form in his introduction to the book: ‘There's something to be said for a shorter, more intense experience. It can be invigorating, sometimes even shocking, like a waltz with a stranger you will never see again, or a kiss in the dark, or a beautiful curio for sale laid out on a cheap blanket at a street bazaar.’

And indeed in this collection there is a curio for every reader – a man who keeps reliving the same life, repeating the same mistakes over and over again, a columnist who kills people by writing their obituaries, a poignant tale about the end of the human race and a firework competition between neighbours which reaches and explosive climax. This latter, excitingly, will be launched initially as an audio-only edition – find out more here.

‘I made them especially for you’, says King to his Constant Reader. ‘Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth.'

King has confirmed that Bad Little Kid will be included in The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. This was posted in the official forum.

I asked Steve last week if there was any update on the TOC and got this response:
".....the final table of contents hasn’t been decided,
either the stories or the order, but that one of the longer ones has never
been published in this country, and some not at all."

The Moderator over at King's board had an update on what King is working on.

Mod at SKMB:

Last week he told me he was working on edits for The Bazaar of Bad Dreams and had a new short story in the wings. I haven't read that one yet but couldn't say more even if I had.

Not sure if the short story mentioned is for the book or not though...

Here is another new interview with King about Revival. In it he also mentions Finders Keepers and The Bazaar of Bad Dreams; a collection with

King is already looking ahead to next year, with Finders Keepers (the sequel to Mr. Mercedes) out in June.

And in the fall of 2015 there will be a new collection of stories called The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, which'll collect about 20 short tales. It should be a pretty fat book.

List of Short Stories Set

Looks like the list of short stories that will be in the upcoming collection has been set…but not yet released. Here is the confirmation from the moderator on King’s official board:

The list has already been set but I can't reveal yet which ones made the cut.

And on a question about if it would just contain stories or also poems and essays the answer was:

Yes, but not anything I can share publicly yet, or long story short

Mr Mercedes, Finders Keepers & A Collection

Posted: June 13, 2014, 18:22
_
King just posted this letter about Mr Mercedes, Finders keepers (out next spring) and a possible collection next fall.

Dear Constant Reader,

Mr. Mercedes is the first volume of a projected trilogy concerning Bill Hodges, his friends…and his enemies. The second volume, Finders Keepers, is finished (in first draft, at least) and will be published in the first half of 2015, perhaps followed by a book of new stories in the fall (or not). Anyway, these three novels seem to revolve around the City Center Massacre that opens Mr. Mercedes. Because of that, I wanted to post a complete list of those killed and injured in Brady Hartsfield’s attack. Some of these unfortunates have other parts to play. As always, I’m glad you’re along for the ride, but be warned: there are some sharp turns ahead, and I’m a really crazy driver.
